Best to not spray on windy days in that shelter. But glad to got a quiet day for the coating. Give it plenty of try time then when they do not stink, consider sneaking them into the house for an overnight.

It was fairly calm today and just a slight breeze. The canopy was mostly to keep the bugs and such out of the paint. I put the painted parts in the shed for now. I'll check the smell in a day or two and maybe take them to the basement for a few days. Probably should have waited for warmer days but just got the urge to move forward.

slow down those coats in cold weather. the paint will take about a kazillion years to offgas and get hard.

Rattle can coats are very thin. Just checked on the parts and the paint has started to cure. I should have moved them out into the sun and fresh air today but my favorite chair wouldn't let go. It was supposed to be rainy today but all we got was wind. Next couple of days will be nicer. Wednesday will be near 70 and I'm going riding.

I did get my levers changed out today and the plate attached to the Fuel Pump mount which is now a tach drive cover. I did decide to cut off the horn and make it smaller. Both levers are the same now, as 14mm works great for both the brake and 1200 clutch per reports of others.

Thin coats of rattle can is the best, as once you get enough on it glosses right up with 1500 to 2000 grit paper.

Moved the parts out into the sun for a while today. Even did a little test of the clear coat I intend to use. It appears to be compatible with the color coat with no bubbling. I'll set them up outside again tomorrow while I'm gone and maybe take them to the basement when I get home. Went by Harbor Freight to pick up some horns and they have discontinued them. Too bad because they were descent looking and plenty loud. Ordered a set from Amazon to get by. New tire showed up today, ordered Sunday and showed up today. Settled on a Kenda Challenger as I have used them before. My first choice was a Bridgestone but they jacked up the price more than I was willing to spend. If it was my road bike I would have spent the extra dollars. The one on my 1800 has over 13k and still looks good. Still needs front signals but I can't seem to settle on a set I like. I do have a ugly set I can rig up for my inspection if need be.

A little shop mishap yesterday after a nice ride and visit with jdvorchak (John). Working on some parts with my cordless drill and failed to properly support the part. Everything shifted and the drill slipped. The bit popped through the part and into my left palm just below the knuckle. Not sure how deep the puncture is because I reversed the drill right away and proceeded to say a few choice words. Not much blood but boy is it sore today. Haven't gone to the urgent care so far and I am up to date with my shots. I'll keep my eye on it for any changes.

I'm ok. It is pretty tender in the immediate area. May have trouble pulling the clutch for a week or two. The white area is from the cream I use to encourage healing.

That could have been bad! Hope it heals quickly for you.

Trying to take it easy for a few days to promote healing. Feeling better all the time and most of the pain has dissipated. I did finish mounting the turn signals (thanks John). Single filament sockets removed and replaced with dual to run marker lights. Started working on the horns but somehow lost the power input and couldn't find it before I had to quit for the day. Should be able to figure that out tomorrow. If I'm real ambitious the new front tire will get mounted also. Need to get the wet sanding done so I can clear coat the shelter halves. Getting closer.

Ah yes, I too have the scar of a drill bit…almost the same spot!
Mine got just a touch of a tendon they figured. If it was anything like mine, it’ll be sore for a few weeks. Feel for you.

That's pretty close to the same spot. My healing process is generally fast. I'm just having a little soreness right around the puncture area. Tested my use of the clutch and it feels good enough to ride.

A little more done today. New front tire is on and the horn problem is a week button. Sucks because the controls are brand new. The button does work but you have to push real hard. Starting the process of hiding the excess wire from the old harness. I should have plenty of room under the shelter for all the extra wire. Thought about working on the painted parts but got sidetracked by the 60+ degrees and took a ride instead.

I feel your pain. I was drilling out the "safety" caps for the idle mix screws on a set of XS1100 carbs (I think) a long time ago, and the (small) drill bit broke and went right into one of my fingers. Still got the scar.
