With my eyes, it's kind of hard to tell how much thread is left.
May want to wire brush and try a quick reassemble, tightening to 18 ft.-lbs. (or 2.5mgk) and see if they hold up.
Great to keep these old 'Wings flying on down the road.

Yeah, Let's loose those forks (at least the lowers)IMHO. There are more to be had.
Something caused some pretty scary corrosion there. You must think about the
steel bolt inserts too. Keep up the good work!

(88,000 miles and broke down now)
1975 GL1000 Dresser ( project bike, still waiting for me to finish) 20,727k on speedo.
1979 XS1100sf (18,600 miles)

1978 CT (Trail) 90 1,650 miles on speedo

Hi just an update been doing lots of cleaning and panting still more to do but hope to get something back together soon .

i would loose the fork lowers, in favor of new ones. the strength of the metal would be in doubt with that much corrosion

its a big project its more then I have tried in the past hope I have not bitten off to much its been fun so far :crosso :IDTS: :-D

yes they are going but they are hard to find in the uk :( :(
