Tires (like oil) always bring about spirited discussions. However, I will jump in. On our HD's (which we ride a lot) I generally run Dunlop 402's-excellent tire and excellent mileage. On my '78 I run Dunlop 404's. They don't have as good as mileage, but I also do not ride it nearly as much, and so more likely to "age-out"

they are good enough tires. they just don't get the 15K I get out of the 402's on my HD's Years ago Dunlop made a 17" elite II which was a great tire. It all really depends on how much you ride. Our HD's get 5-10K per year, sadly my 78 gets at best 1-2K per year

Yeah other reviews have said they don't last all that long but I'm okay with that. I'm just looking to ride over the next couple months before it cools down here. I plan on doing a complete frame off "restore" of the bike this winter/spring, and I'm sure once I get an idea of what I want the bike to look and ride like, I'll be changing tires too.

Guys help me out.
*Checked the temperature switch with multimeter, looking good.
*Tested the fan, it runs when hooke it up to the battery.
*Temperature gauge barely mooves after 15 min running on idle and no sign of the fan starting.

Haven't change the thermostat in a long time but I guess that's fine.
The thing is that I'm afraid to run the bike for more than 15 min. I don't want to overheat it.

I afraid of overhearing the engine.
What would you do?

is the radiator heating up?
Did you make sure the actual thermostat is opening all the way?
When you checked the thermostat switch did it switch on when heated up?
Depending on your ambient temperature it can take a while before the bike actually heats up enough to turn the fan on

Could be one of several things. Visually check your radiator fluid level at the radiator, not the recovery tank. Make sure your 7 Volt regulator is supplying 7 Volts out. (You can check this if your gas gauge is working properly you have a good 7 Volt regulator.) Check your electrical connections for corrosion and make sure they fit snugly. Places to check: harness to 7Volt regulator, harness to temp sensor (That is hard to reach with the carbs on) and harness to temp gauge. If they are OK then I would suspect the thermostat.

Thanks guys I'll check all your suggestions.
Already tried the 7 volt harness that was a pain. all my wire harness is original and plastic conections are still quite alright to be 40 years old. I'm amazed how well built this glorious bikes are, it took me 8 years to find the 78 that I wanted now I can't stop tinkering with it. crossy.gif

Guys correct me if I’m wrong but the only rubber seal in the front brake pistons/caliber is the dust seal that goes around the piston right?

I have a brand new piston that leaks and I’m going through the motions trying to solve it without screaming...

you might want to start a thread on that with a little more info...year of bike, what you have done, etc...... shakehands
