When do you start taking orders?

No doubt, pocket money from a lil side "Gov't work" on the weekends would sure help right about now. Paint Dept Supervisor says he has a bunch (100 gallons) of Black paint that is coming up on it's expiration date and will need to be disposed of. But I am leaning to the dark grey metalic we have

Heh, Heh... ya might want to wait and see how my paint job turns out first
So far I am on schedule... got tired of CONSTANTLY waiting on my compressor to recover so today I took the frame to work and ran an air hose "Out Back" and finished sandblasting the frame... somehow I remembered sandblasting in 90 degree weather was much more fun 30 years ago

thanks for the tear down pics. I'm gonna be doing the same to mine and since I know zero about this bike so far a good visual of what I'm getting into is really nice to have.

btw, what is the "tank thing" called where a tank usually sits on most other bikes?

Well, the Wife, Grand-Daughter and weather (HUMID!!) played havoc on my painting plans, but in spite of it all I got the frame prepped and primered

No drips, no runs, no errors ... looks good. Paint should flow onto that with no problem. Are you going to use 0000 steel wool first to help smooth it out or something different? For me the steel wool works better since it is less abrasive on the primer than even the finest sandpaper.

Nice looking primer job though 8)

In the past I have used 600 grit wet/dry LIGHTLY to scuff primer to give the final coat something to grip. I have used 1200 / 2000 and it left a finish that was too smooth and had poor adhiesion of the top coat.
I am a big fan of 4-ought steelwool.... everything from paint stripping to cleaning chrome, I got 4 pads now.
Would it scuff the primer enough for the color coat to grab onto or "polish" it so the top coat doesn't stick well?

That's a good question ... I've never had the problem with my paint not sticking to smooth primer ... I know that rattle can paint does not have the same quality of adhesion but good auto paint has never let me down. I like to start with a smooth surface so my paint goes on nice and even with no imperfections from the primer. I also use 4-0 between each coat and my paint work has always come out smooth.

These were done using 4-0 before priming. 4-0 between each coat of primer. 4-0 between each coat of paint ... they came out like glass. Paint is Satin black.

Nice job! How long have they been in use? No problems once in use I take it...

I just picked up an 81 1100 aspencade full dresser, it will be interesting to see your project naked. BTW sandblastin sux ass, no matter what the temp!!!
