The last continuation of the sidecar fittings.

I see many sidecar links made of water pipe with a nut welded onto the end, most are not very prity compaired to the care we put into our rides, so for cosmetic reasons (and maybe strength?) i am recessing them and pressing them into the pipe before welding.

Just to see what I am up against I stripped down all four sets of carbies.

I think you could grow potatoes in one set of them by the crud that was within.

Several Wood screws holding the float bowls on.

One set had the two jets back to front, the ones under the Kidney shaped plate.

Two carbs did not have the screw and plate holding the float needle and seat in place.

One set had the vaccum cut off lid fitted on backwards.

Several springs under the mixture screw missing.

Three springs that sit between the butterfly shafts missing.

I will put some of these pics under another post that I will call "Horror Stories" or something like that?

Next break I will be submerging this lot in cleaning solvent and let them soak for a few weeks or so.

Now she is all back together so as I can get the sidecar links measured up, make them and fit them, but that is next break or the one after.

a couple of them little so-and-so's did not want to come out, but using the correct words (with my garndson well away) they finally yielded.

Fascinating! But if your going to use pipe fittings, PVC is a lot easier to work with!

I just rebuilt a rack of carbs from a CB750 and found three of the four pilot (air mix) screws broken off in the passage. Was only able to salvage one of the three so bought another complete set, two of which were unusable, so out of the eight carbs, by switching parts back and forth I was able to eventually come up with one complete set in pretty good condition. If you can make all sixteen of your work it will be a small miracle.

I'm enjoying watching your build.

Maybe in my next lifetime, I'll have a shop as organized as yours!

Pedro, this is an absolutely great build thread. You do not have restoration projects going on mate, you have a full production line happening down-under. I love all our Aussie members posts, I always read them with an Aussie accent in my mind. I might to have to start doing that with other members threads, its fun. I agree your shop looks great, it seems you have enough tooling, and skills, to build a GoldWing from scratch.

Well I can have as many hours in the day that I want, I just have less minutes in them.

Up at 3:00am, into the play-pen, "Beer-O-Clock" is at 3:00pm and bedtime is when I cant stand up properly anymore.

Mechanical things are a sinch for me and having 4 GoldWings in bits at the one time is no problem, below is a snapshot of an IBM selectric, I know them inside out and strip them down to the Power Frame (Aluminium Casting) for an overhaul, I have several of these in different stages of diss-assembly at the moment, one day after my Wings are on the road I will take them up again and get them purring.

As for the 1 Wife, well it is impossible to keep her happy even some of the time, I think she prefers me being out in the workshop and out of her way. Suits me too.

This is a great group of people with the same love of the old girls. when they first came out many riders bagged them, called them "LeadWings", but i think they have outlasted many of the other bikes that were around then.

here are a couple of terrible photos of my New 1978 GoldWing just after I bought her. What a "Fool" I was to trade her in on a 4 wheel cage!
