So true! Look what happened to me after reading a few hours worth of posts! Better limit yourself, Cookie, or the men with the longsleeved overcoats may just come visiting. :-D

I've not been on here much myself so wasn't aware of Cookie's absence.

Not met you, Cookie,( hardly surprising really given the width of the Atlantic and US customs right on-ness) but appreciated your input on certain posts, and wish you all the best.....good vibes are coming your way! Even without a photo and address....hey, we can do!

BTW, my father in law, who is 80, has had two ops for liver cancer and is currently running around like a spring chicken, so don't worry about it all too much!

Enjoy the moment, see the beauty, relax in the sunshine.......

EDIT...

Ah hell, I only read page one! Thought it was the only one.

In my own defence I've just got back from a heavy night, dread to think how many beers I just gulped. I'm glad to hear things are chugging along in the right direction! ;)

rcmatt007 wrote:sounds like they made you itch... technically it is a side-effect not an allergy, but I know morphine makes my skin crawl! then there is the nausea.... I never could figure out why people actually like them

nice to hear from you
Absolutely!

It's truly horrible at first but unfortunately junkies have so much pain to deal with (albeit normally psychological) that they go through the nausea that you and me find so off-putting and get themselves habituated.

I think morphine makes anyone feel sick initially.

I ended up on it for a while in '95 after I had a lower lumbar disc explode, ramming part of the shell into my left sciatic nerve (don't do this at home, kids!) I became immune to morphine, so they operated, cutting back the disc's shell, a mechanical solution for a mechanical problem.

Since the op, I've basically had a new life.....before the op, I used to get 4 day migraines, now I don't! I can do Vintage Twinshock Scrambles, and ride 60km on the trails, without falling to pieces. It's a great!

Thank you, Professor Moreau!

The problem was caused when I over-stressed the disc when I fell about 30 ft onto my ass when I was 19....I did a bit of extreme climbing and I wasn't too careful.

This is Christine, Cookie's wife ....

Treatment options have run out for Cookie - his most recent scans came back showing significant worsening of the metastases in his bones, and his doctor recommended discontinuing his chemotherapy - an aggressive regimen that had been particularly tough on him - in favor of maintaining some semblance of quality of life.

He has entered a hospice program which will allow him to stay home and receive care from visiting nurses. It's heartrending to see my beautiful husband as a shell of his usual self, and the end is probably not too far away. He's comfortable and well loved.

I know the Goldwing board members had a huge place in his heart - he values the friendship and camaraderie he found with you all.

Thanks for all that you have offered him over the years. I'll keep you informed as things progress.

Christine

His camaraderie and friendship has been very special to many of us. This is absolutely horrible news to read but I can only imagine how horrible it was for you to have to write this. I have never met him in person but I do consider him a great friend.

Thank you for letting us know and if there is anything we can do please do not hesitate to post here or contact me directly on the email link below.

Christine, thank you so much for the update. Hard for us to hear;very much harder for you to write.

We will have a huge gap in the NGW heart too; one that will not be filled easily, if at all!
May his last days be as peaceful and pain free as possible.
