I am getting close to the re-starting her. This week finishing the exhaust, painted black with barbeque paint, and then seeing if she will start. Paint for the body pieces will be later once all the mechanicals are in order.

I decided to not re-chrome everything but to go black powder coat.

One little problem with the fuel pump gasket, the bike runs better with only one gasket! Don't ask.

But now carbs synched and it runs great

I am having problems bleeding rear break and managed to spray the painted engine and gas tank with break fluid while attempting to use the vacuum pump.

But overall - success!

Since my last post I have been busy. The old gal is running well, I have had some minor problems with oil leaks from valve covers (new gasket slipped out of groove) and my steering bearing was too loose which gave me a deceleration shake and a feeling of looseness. Used a luggage scale to set the right tension on bearing after cranking it very tight to seat it.

The bike starts without any choke but when I pull the choke all the way the idle does not increase? The cam is moving but bog hitting the idle screw arm, I may have idle without choke too high, adjusted it again last night. I did put the bigger idle air jets in to correct the pause when you give it a lot of gas.

Now I am working on painting the body pieces. I am going to do it myself. With spray cans! I have been sanding for the las few days then self etching primer, followed by more primer then paint details to follow
Picture of luggage scale, goal is to require 7lbs of pull to cause the tip of fender to move 1 inch of arc. I have done a lot of powder coating on this bike. I hope it lasts.
Only paint is on muffler and body panels everything else is powder coated

Absolutely - powder is the best way to go! I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

As far as expensive the only thing I had professionally powder coated was the frame. I did everything else with a $100 gun, sand blasting cabinet from HF and a old, free oven in the garage.

It is now 99% complete, I used a lot of powder coat on this project. The headers were going to be black but by mistake they are silver. I will keep it that way for now and maybe change it later.

The bike runs great!

I think the headers look fine as is. Blends in with the engine.

I like the silver pipes too. But what is the black spot on top of the RH pipe looks like just above the brake pedal?

The black spot is shadow from the brake pedal, sunny day here in Wisconsin

Might be me but the shadow from the brake pedal is up on the side of the engine. For the pedal to leave a shadow on the pipe the sun would need to be higher. Not a big deal and not knocking anything. It just stuck out for me.
