How 'bout this one guys, are the 1000 "tanks" plastic like the 1100 ones? Or are they metal?

Bummer, I thought that might be the case.
Limits custom adaption unless you want to get messy with fiberglass and resin, I hate that stuff.


More work done over the weekend:

Mounted a little Bembro master for the rear brake.


Also tacked in some mounts for the aux fuel keg and the battery.


And the reason I was asking about the build of the 1000 tank, seriously considering putting the stock tank back into the build, but I like the lines of the 1000 tank a bit better.

Fabrication fun! Looks good. I would like to see some other angles on that master cylinder!

I would think almost any LARGE fuel tank could be made to work by cutting out the inside sheet metal that surrounds the frame. You would basically have just an empty outer skin.

There are very few production tanks out there that I actually like, except perhaps Moto-Guzzi and 80s GS-PD tanks.
I'm kind weird like that.

I've actually always been a fan of the early GL tanks, I think the squared off lines are just perfect. Originally I planed to run without a tank at all, just skin the frame, but now considering paying a little respect to the early tank.
Plus, I haven't seen one used with a seat as low as this one will be, think it would look very sharp.

Now we're getting somewhere!

That is effin hot! I think the '78 tank would look killer on there, but I've no idea how much modding it would take. Are the side panels seperate on those? I'm just thinkin out loud, if widening is needed bolting strips of aluminum between the panels, etc?

The shoes are such a big step, can actually start to see the character somewhere other than in my head now.
It was a nice surprise to find the rubber waiting by my garage door.
I will have to say that mounting a 16" is a total PITA.
Couldn't be happier with the look though.

For the tank, Sunnbobb is sending me a 75, I like the squareness of them, we'll see how easy it is to mount up.
Hopefully things will just roll along from here, still a bunch of big things to sort out, but it's coming together.

Also rebuilt the carbs.
The guys at piercemanifolds.com set me up with what I need and ran some numbers to get the carbs in the right range.



They dropped my main venturi down to 28 (said 25 would be better, but they only had 28).
Aux venturi were 45, those stay.
Pump jet is 50, that was good.
Main jets were dropped to 110.
Needle and seat were fine at 175
Air correctors and emulsion tubes were good as well at 180 and F11.
Idle jets were dropped to 45.
That and a rebuild kit and Im ready to try it out.
