Carburetor Removal, GL1100

I just now ordered Randakk's GL1100 Kit with Howard's book. There is no video for the GL1100.

Had a yard sale this weekend and came up with enough to cut loose and finally get the kits. And there's a bunch more room in the shop and basement as an added bonus.

I'll start a new thread for the rebuild, I gotta take pics, ya know?!

Can the 1000 carb pack be removed the same way that Roady details for the 1100?

Mine is only running on the 1/3 carbs at the moment and with the points and coils firing front cylinders then rear cylinders the problem is most likely the passages in the 2/4 carbs are gummed up.

And have been reading all Randakks' articles on the 1000. Great stuff!

Yes it is basically the same but I don't remove the seat or the intake runners. I will try to do a verbal How too on this tonght so as not to clobber up this thread.

I need to totter off to bed, Working nights is a drag.

If the removal is basically the same I should be able to follow Roadys directions and take the whole rack off if I need to. Think I will try Randakks' quick methods first and see if that will kinda clear up the problem. Plus a new set of points as I am not sure how old they are at all.

I just went out and checked all the mixture screws and found them all close to 6 or 7 turns out. Ran them all back into 2 turns out. Surprised it ran at all.

In the tenth pic it shows the vacuum tube,I havent had this bike long but noticed where the vacuum tube is suppsed to be mine is missing where does the other end goto

It goes to the vacuum advance mechanism located at the top right rear of the engine. In the picture below its the circular part at the extreme left with the little pipe going towards the front. The pipe part is wrapped in tape to prevent it from being painted in the picture. The vacuum hose fits on the pipe.

I see where you are talking about, Maybe ill get a chance tomorow to lacate it and fix,if this has been off what kind of problems would this cause

if your not the mechanic type and scared that your going to do more harm than good attempting to clean your carbs/me. Is there anythng I can try to run thru with the fuel that will help or anything \i can spray into the carbs that might clean my fuel starvation problem. It runs when I get out into second gear. I have to keep the idle up to 20000 when i come to a stop or it will die?

Has anyone had a problem with fuel dripping from below your engine just about where the til pipes leave the block. I started my bike and \i can see a pretty heavy flow that appears to be black in colour but smells like fuel not thick like oil.

Most of the guys down here in the South run a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil in every tank. Seafoam has also been touted as an excellent cleaner to use occasionally.

I generally run 89 Octane straight up. The more the better.

You may be looking at a carb job.
