Re: Carb Kits - Visual Conclusions

After a visual comparison of the 'kits' parts to the OEM, I would not recommend using the brass bits from aftermarket rebuild kits. Although some I could not tell a difference, so many had obvious differences when compared side-by-side with OEM. Makes me wonder if any of them would be comparable if I had the tools to really 'spec' out the parts. If you decide to anyway, do all 4 carbs so they will at least be wrong together. (And keep the old parts you take out.)

One of the recurring questions involve the cost difference of kits. The Randakk kit isn't cheap @ $133.85 (which includes Priority Mail shipping for domestic customers) but when you add up what other vendors offer, and discount the value of the brass bits, You come up with near the same price, incomplete in comparison, and non viton o-rings, plenum gasket, passage plugs, jet cover gasket, etc. Value has to also be given for Randakk support. Try asking the other venders for help when you get stuck.

In a later installment I intend to expose the soft (ie rubber) parts to different chemicals and see what happens.

Keep in mind that kit contents change and a manufacture may have more than one kit on the market at the same time, so contents may vary. My research concentrated on the 1978 GL1000. But I suspect for other models, contents will similarly compare.
