New Guy with two projects

#1

Post by Bkreaume »

I really feel in love with the look of the Cafe/ Street fighter versions of the GL1000. So I have been patiently looking out for a good project candidate on CL for many months. Two weeks ago I came across this first photo 38000 miles for $200 most everything seems to be there. But it was not the greatest starting point. But since it had the Lester wheels I figured why not.

Then over the weekend the Yellow Beauty popped up on CL. 7800 Miles for $500. To my wife's dismay I had to jump on it. I can use the carbs from the first one and part out the rest and probably gain back the cost for both of them, with a little luck.

Any way I thinking it may be some kind of sin to modify the yellow one into my original plans. I may just have to do a straight forward restore.

Thanks for all the great info here

Welcome from Wisconsin! While the sulfur yellows are somewhat more prized, there is no real differences, other than the original paint. If the panels and paint are in good shape, you may just find someone to buy them or even trade. Just a thought. Unless, of course, you're liking it too, lol! Whatever way you go, enjoy the ride!

Sandy,

I have looked at your fine examples. Did you end up repainting yours. I think mine will at the minimum will need new decals. More than likely paint

GL with the s/c was our original, bought new in 1976.
Although needing refurbishing after a 15 year sleep, the yellow parts were still good.
The other 2 were barn finds and had to be repainted.
