you will drill into both the retainer and wheel, as the dimple is into both

i will look for the dimple. i drill the retainer side and not the wheel correct? then purchase a new retainer? i purchased a tool made from a socket it did not work , so i am back to square one. maybe make my own. thanks

You actually drill both. But not very deep. What you are doing is removing the "stake". You can reuse the original retainer. Just tighten it up and restake with a hammer and center punch.

But, if you already tried to remove the retainer without removing the stake point then the threads may be too bad to reuse it.

Yes, just drill the retainer. I reused the retainer; just made sure the threads are clean, and staked another spot. Some people use thread locker instead. Good luck!

Tried a little powder coating this weekend. using heat 2 lamps. i will build a cabinet for the heatlamps adding 2 more . It didn't work as i would have like. I will purchase a toaster over today, same specifications as one sold on Eastway for a lot cheaper. 1400 watt 20x15x13. will have to strip and repaint.

Wheels are looking good. Wheels do take lots of abuse, so that is a situation where I would rather prime and paint than polish.

i spoke to a Honda service technician at the local Honda dealership after he installed my new rear tire. i wanted to make sure every thing that should have grease has grease on it. i asked it the rear final drive flange was a fixed part or should it have movement, since it is pushed on and has rubber dust covers. Should i be worried if it does not move, and should i grease it. He said the newer models like the 1500 or 1800 this flange moves. those models had issue with this part but the 1000 do not move. is he correct?

not clear what you mean by the flange. if is is the toothed connection between the wheel and the pumpkin, no it does not move, but the teeth need moly grease. if if is the connection between the shaft and the pumpkin, it is held to the shaft by a godawfultoreach circlip. it does not move on the shaft, but the teeth need to be greased

it is part number 42610-371-000 flange, final drive . it is pressed into the hub and has 6 studs bolted to it.

So, are you asking whether the studs that go into the wheel hub should be greased? If so, I grease them just so the flange remains easy to remove later. Not going to hurt anything...
