Broken starter bolt.

My new starter arrived. I had previously pulled the old one and bench tested it and did notice it was missing the front bolt. When I tried to install the new one I discovered why, it's snapped off inside the case. I have a feeling an ez-out is not going to do the job so it's probably going to be a drill and tap situation. Can anybody tell me the length of that bolt. And it would be very nice to know how thick the case is right there.

The front and rear bolts are the same length, IIRC. I can't speak to the thickness of the case...

Thanks that should keep me from going too deep.

I can tell you from experience that there is very little "meat" around the rear bolt. While trying to drill out a broken rear bolt the bit wandered a teeny tiny little bit and I ended up with an oil leak . It wouldn't surprise me if the front one is similar. Good luck.

Thank you for the warning.
