A few Valkyrie questions

#1

Post by Liam »

A number of months ago I bought a 2001 Valkyrie. It did have cylinder head damage and the entire cylinder head was replaced.
I know this forum is all about 4 cylinder wings, and maybe I am being cheeky in asking a few questions.
I have had a look online to see if there are any forums or technical sites pertaining to the Valkyrie.
All I could find were sites run by people that like to refer to themselves as Dragon Master or such. They all seem to belong to chapters, whatever that means.
I don't feel I could fit in, basically as I do not have any body piercings, tattoos, I don't smoke, rarely drink alcohol.
I have never smoked a spliff or used any recreational mood enhancers. (Yes, Really)
I don't feel the need either to belong to a chapter to convince myself that I am some kind of badass, either.

Anyways, I figured I would take my chances on getting banned by asking a few questions here.

Ok, here is the first question.
On the front of the bike is this light bar thingy.
It is missing a spotlight. Is this bar standard fitting?

The lightbar is not standard, Liam. Many have fitted the Cobra bar made from aluminum. That one appears to be chrome plated steel. Definitely aftermarket.

The fork mounting points are also aftermarket and are likely the remnant of formally mounted air wings. Air wings up on the forks typically remove the last bit of turbulence after the standard Baker air wings are fitted below. Also, they tend to be used in conjunction with a windshield. Perhaps yours had one once?

Attached is a photo of the lower air wings on my Valkyrie. You can see where there are slight gaps in the blocked airflow that wings placed on the forks where your mounting points are would address. I don’t find it to be enough of a problem to go that route.

Also, there is a pretty good Valkyrie riders club forum with only a few prima donnas. Lots of information to be had there. Here’s the link:

Ha. Grab the glass cleaner and go after all that chrome. It is a chore.

I will put up a few more pictures so you can see what mine is like.
It came fitted with these aftermarket footpegs, Which I think are fitted back to front.

those mounting clamps are for some aftermarket windshield.
I have a couple of sets of Memphis Shades clamps that look pretty close to those.

The RHS rocker cover had taken some damage, so a pair of ordinary 1500 rocker covers have been fitted.
They are not so pretty. I do have a good cover from the left side, see below picture of spare/donor engine.
