Re: Engine idle speed synch session vacuum numbers ???
never thought about that. Just make sure to start easy and slowly increase the volume while increasing the rpm. You will hear when the engine is struggling.

Control of the synch port injected water volume will be tightly regulated with an adjustable vacuum hose restrictor valve.

Cliff, I will be rooting for you to be able to attend the vintage motorcycle gathering on the 11th on your trike.
By the way, I really enjoy reading your posts on trouble shooting different problems and how you explain things that are giving people headaches. You are a wealth of information. One more thing usually said when offering a Goldwing for sale, “the carburetors just need a little adjustment.”

Re: Engine idle speed synch session vacuum numbers ???
Digger, the “ran when parked & carbs just need a little adjustment” just made me smile, we’ve all heard those on occasion!
Cliff, I got my 76 up-to the shop and am hoping to get after it soon but major back pain has had me just sticking to essentials but I’m hoping for next week. I pulled my 81 CBX out of the barn after sitting there for the last 4-5yrs and got to ride it to a Dr’s appointment yesterday, what a wonderful ride ! Got me stoked up ! Just the current round of back issues has me focusing on necessities only. I am limited to sub 100mi rides these days and normally ride my 14 FJR so the CBX was a pure treat, it ran perfectly for the 90+ miles I got to ride it yesterday but the throttle lock didn’t work great and the rh mirror fell apart at the joint luckily it all stay’d inside the boot, but once I got home and repaired the mirror I was just whooped. Hot, hot, hot out !
Anyway, I’m hoping to get after it this next week, as my 76 is just a sweet ride when it’s working right. I had a lot of idle exhaust popping just moving it the couple of hundred feet to the shop. Lot’s to do there.
Cliff, good luck ! Looking forward to your successful report on your trike, over the years I have done the “water decarbon/tune-up” a lot over the years but on cars, it’d be wise to do it outside imho. The GM decarboning stuff is also good stuff. Looking at you photo’s makes me wonder if you’re #3 exhaust valve seal isn’t leaking a bit, not a lot but some. Good luck !

Trike's engine simply had to be started and running again after napping for 3 years.

Re: Engine idle speed synchronization vacuum numbers ?
I needed to see how far out of synchronization the #3 and #1 throttle plates' openings are presently, mis-adjusted. In order to visually inspect them, I removed their respective intake manifold bolts, and loosened their respective band clamps. Atypically, I twisted the now freed intake manifolds completely off the #1 and #3 carburetor snouts. WTH ...
I was torqued to discover, but relieved to find both intake manifolds' rubber orings were no longer, round.

Re: Engine idle speed synchronization vacuum numbers ?
Backing up to my last post, after eventually discovering all 4 intake manifold orings were unexpectedly 'distorted' and leaking air, I had completely removed the carburetors rack off trike's engine Sunday the 12th, with full expectation the main fuel jets' orings and rubber blanking plugs might also be affected.
Before fully committing to disassembling the carburetors, Monday the 13th, I looked in my collection of various still new GL1000 carburetor orings and a few other extras I'd ordered from Cycle-Recycle, before 2020. Nope. Don't have all the orings and zero rubber blanking plugs I anticipate may need replacing... Don't open them up now.

Re: Engine idle speed synchronization vacuum numbers ?
Cliff, your post really struck a chord ! After my major back reconstruction 2yrs ago and all the ensuing problems that continue along with whatever’s currently wrong including eye problems I’ve pretty much decided it’s time to start selling and give up riding. I can currently only manage about 100mi max.
I guess I need to give my 14 fastest color red FJR a cleaning and list it and then look at the collection. I’m hoping to get after my red 76 this coming week and put new belts on it and fix the popping problem but I think the wife will have to deal with selling it after I’m no longer here , hopefully many years from now.
This all kinda got sparked yesterday after a visit to my Optomitrist and some problems now really highlighted this all followed by coming home and trying to do some work in the yard and having to call the wife to come help me get up because I couldn’t ,,, just don’t know at this point.

Re: Engine idle speed synchronization vacuum numbers ?
Cliff, on the gas thing. Let me add that my belief is that the “new” gas is all trash is one of those internet myths imho, On my 81 CBX that I woke up a couple of weeks ago after about a 4yr sleep, it started and just ran perfectly and I rode it about 45mi to my physical therapy place, it just ran fine, very sweet running engine ! On that 4yr old fuel ! Now I will add that I had added my “pickle” juice to it when I parked it which is a heavy mix of Stabil, and equal amount of Marvel Mystery Oil (which decarbonizes things) and a fairly heavy amount of Lucas Fuel Treatment, this seems to work quite well.
Now I do believe that different areas have different blends and that may give different results, but I also believe that properly prepped fuel will sit for a long time w/o problems. But also let me add that the alcohol in the fuel will be the problem due to absorbing water and possibly rusting the inside the tank. But this is all strictly my opinion and I haven’t done any kind of study on it but it seems that properly pickled gas is not a problem.

Re: Engine idle speed synchronization vacuum numbers ?
I know that modern plastic gas cans don't seal perfectly and it is possible for some of the light volitiles needed for starting to evaporate over time in some conditions but unless you left the cap off I wouldn't expect the fuel to go bad in just 2 months.
Heck, the auxiliary tank on Mr.H is a Rotopax gas can; I added a fitting next to the fuel cap with a line inside the tank (with a "clunk" on the end) and a line on the outside that I plumbed into the original fuel system via a tank selector valve that sits above the fuel pump. To vent the tank I added another fitting (also near the cap), open to the air space inside the tank and with a piece of clear tubing on the outside that ends near the bottom of the tank.
I'm a firm believer in draining the bike's tank before storage in case it ends up stored long enough for bad things to happen inside the tank (I especially want to avoid removing a GoldWing tank for cleaning) but I do leave the Rotopax full with stabilizer during the winter and it has never been a problem, even the time it ended up stored for 18 months. In a vented tank.
The first time I heard about the "water tuneup" was from my brother in law in the '70s. Now a career auto-mechanic (service adviser for many years now), back then he was taking auto shop in high school to learn how to fix an old car he'd bought from a neighbour. He told me that the teacher had brought in a friend who was a mechanic at a Jaguar dealership to talk to the class and (among other things) he had demonstrated this (factory recommended IIRC) method. As I recall he simply removed the air cleaner cover and slowly poured a container of water into the top of the carb(s) of a running engine until it struggled and eventually stalled, then put the cover back on and fired it up again.
I haven't tried it myself intentionally but I can say from experience that when coolant enters a cylinder from a blown head gasket everything becomes very clean very fast so I have no doubt that it would work.

Re: Engine idle speed synchronization vacuum numbers ?
So sorry to read that my NGW heros are experiencing mobility woes.
At 70 myself (can't believe it) I seem to be functioning for the time being but
am reading the writing on the wall. Ironically my riding is improving due to online education.
Wish I knew back then what I've learned recently.
Turned down a 5/6 day trip with a buncha Kawasaki youngins who leave for Gaspe
next weekend. First sign I've had of my increasing decrepitude.
Y'all are in my thoughts and thanks for keeping my perfectly running Wing on
the road.

At this point in the re-awakening project, the carburetors have been removed and are presently disassembled. The primary and secondary main fuel jet orings are found intact and the slow fuel jet rubber blanking plugs are also intact. I do have new replacements from Cycle-Recycle at hand to install.
