Refixing an 1100….
Hey All,
A few of you may recall that I had picked up an 82 1100 from a member on here. This is what it looked like when I first got it. Fast forward a bit, my buddy bought it, rode it, lost both side panels on it, then tipped it over…the finally laid it down. This all happened 2016-2018ish.
I get it back, (he gave it back to me, and let me keep the money) and he bought a different bike from me. I was to ashamed to take a picture of what it looked like when he rode it back into my shop…but needless to say, she was a little rough.
Fast forward to now, I am tearing all the parts off of it that are bent, and either leaving off, or replacing with cafe parts so this girl can ride again. Currently the carbs are off to be sure they are clean, and the mufflers have fallen off.

Sure was a beauty with you let her go. Since it seems mostly cosmetic, bet you have her running and looking great by spring. It is a shame that beautiful exhaust is no more.

Re: Refixing an 1100….
She was a good looker from 5 ft away...any closer, and you started to see it's age. I took the pipes off, as I have a 4 into1 that I will suit the look better. the original pipes will probably clean up and could possibly be sold along with some other parts off of it to help fund this project. I forgot to mention it has a brand new Saddlemen touring seat on it that won't be going back on.
One thing I am wondering about is the rear fender. Should I just cut up the old one, which is still in decent shape, or just get a different one to suit the look better?

Re: Refixing an 1100….
We will see how it sounds...it was made by a member here many moons ago. I have never had it on a bike, so the fit wasn't totally plug and play.

Here is the exhaust on the bike
If you look real close at the pipe, you will see that the mount is not lined up with anything…need to fab up a simple bracket to fix that.

Not a hard bracket to fab. You will be riding in no time, weather permitting.

The exhaust is certainly different, which is one of the reasons I bought it. figured it would go good on this one.

Re: Refixing an 1100….
Little bit of an update on this bike. I think I have all the bent parts off of it, so new stuff starting to go back on. Got some new shocks for it, as well as a new handlebar, with bar end mirrors, and I will get the turn signals mounted in the end of the handlebars shortly. I think I need to rebuild the brake master cylinder…it was one I had sitting on the shelf, and it doesn’t want to do what it is suppose to.
The carbs are cleaned up, and ready to go back on, but they have to wait, as I need to change out take coolant sensor for the new gauge. Also found out that if I use this exhaust, the center stand must go.
Here are some pictures.

What shocks are those?
Great look so hope they perform as well as they look.

Re: Refixing an 1100….
They are inexpensive shocks from Ebay. RFY brand. They have air rebound or dampening...not sure which one to be honest. We shall see how they work on it. I currently do not have any air in them, and they seem to move while bouncing on it. I agree they look good on the bike.Fred Camper wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 10:59 am What shocks are those?

Re: Refixing an 1100….
I have been working on a gauge mount to put the Acewell gauge on the bike. Here is the progress so far.
Step one, take busted gauges apart, and get bracket. Step two, cut off everything that isn’t for an Acewell gauge mount. Step three, weld in a piece for the new gauge to sit. Step four, grind away what you don’t want, and you are left with a suitable mount. I figured I would make two of them. One is going on my buddies 75.

Re: Refixing an 1100….
Once you have that done, then mount the gauge, and bend the bracket to make the gauge sit right on the bike. I am modeling some of this on the 75.
Now off to get powder coated.
