Head Bolts
My memory ain't what it used to be. Just want to make sure the two longer 10mm head bolts go into the top left and top right corners, the same location as the locating dowels?

Re: Head Bolts
I was always told, with car at least, not to reuse head bolts.mhild wrote:My memory ain't what it used to be. Just want to make sure the two longer 10mm head bolts go into the top left and top right corners, the same location as the locating dowels?

Re: Head Bolts
These ones are old Skool, reuse is OK.
Newer ones (say after 1995, not so much). Don't forget to lube the threads and under the washer

Re: Head Bolts
This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, and even on older cars you reused the head bolts. The one time use bolts haven't been around all that long.Oldewing wrote:These ones are old Skool, reuse is OK.

Re: Head Bolts
When I did my heads last month I had the same question mhid,
I tried to put them in a pattern after pulling them but when it was time to
Instal, of course they were mixed up. But when I took a close look at the block and head
I figured it out also. Good luck on seal up.

Re: Head Bolts
The old one time use were call "torque to yield" and would actually stretch when torqued to spec. Only ever saw them on Chrysler products but probably used elsewhere.
