Re: Shortening the Carb air intake.
I apologize for the abject stupidity of my previous post. I should know by now that "everything effects everything." I actually have an airbox off an 1100 on my GL1000. PO had 1100 carbs on it. I have the correct carbs now. I'm wondering if someone could tell me the I.D. of the snorkel on the 1000 airbox so I could compare it to the cross section of snorkels on the airbox I have. Mrs. Brown was right. Geography or geology or geometry or whatever she was teachin' is used by adults.
I need to remember to keep my expectations tiny so I don't end up so whiny.

There was no welding on mine. Just cut the stock base to fit the filter I had. You can see it well enough I think in the pic.

Re: Shortening the Carb air intake.
Bingo! That why no one messes with the OEM air filter setup on any Honda of this vintage ...unless you like a good science project.mrtwowheel wrote:Just thinking that any change to the intake on CV carbs can cause a drastic change in the vacuum that these types of carbs need to work properly. Just changing the size of the filter area would change vacuum flow. I'm just leery of changing anything about the fuel and air, even the one carb setups.

These bikes will tolerate just about any exhaust without the need to mess with the jetting. But, they are VERY sensitive to any change on the intake side.
