Modified Ducati Monster seat on a GL1100

#1

Post by Boxer4 »

I've had people ask about the seat on my bike so I thought I would share a few pics of my process. I have a few more pics to post a bit later.

How much different is a gl1000? I'm not happy with any seat I've seen so far, this might be the answer.

I've only ever owned this one, never a GL1000 so I dont really have an answer for you. I know the 1100 has a longer wheelbase but not sure how that equates in terms of seat mount. My guess is that it would work though with modifications similar to what I have done.

Looks pretty clean to me. Nice work. I experimented with moving the seat back some and found that bumps throw me forward anyways and the foot positions needed to be moved to be more comfortable. Keeping the rider pretty close to where Honda designed seems best. I end up moving forward on the seat anyways.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I find the seat position pretty comfortable, I’m 6’1”. One thing I may rethink is the clubman bars. I like the look and they are fine for 50 - 75 mile rides. They are not that comfortable for long rides due to the hunched over riding position and how much weight you have resting on the bars. I may go to superbike bars or something similar and then I think it would be more comfortable for long distance rides.

This shows the underside of the seat and shows how much plastic had to be removed to fit right and allow it to flex into the shape I needed. The double nuts on the bolts are the stops for the correct seat height.

Very nice. I like how it hides the fuel tank and frame. I've seen enough Triumph Triple seats that fail to do such. This is a good looking job.

Haha, I was just there today. Bought some aluminum brazing rods and. POWERFIST spark tester. I’m usually there about once a week. Love the place.
