I am planning an engine rebuild for an 1100 and I'm thinking about building an engine stand to make the job easier. I'd really like to be able to have it at standing height and maybe adjustable up and down and rotatable.
My question is, what mounting points would you use on the engine for something like that?
Edit: After a google search I found a thread here where a member built an engine stand. That post was quite helpful although I did a number of searches to try and find info before I made this post. The built in site search did not show me that thread. Not sure why but here is the thread I found:

Go to the bottom of the page to see links to other posts about engine stands. There have been a few discussions over the years.

Re: Custom engine stand for rebuilds
Thank you. I will do that. I don't understand why the search function didn't show those. Maybe I didn't use it correctly.

The search function can be tricky at times.

Re: Custom engine stand for rebuilds
Yes, thanks for that. I've been making the list over the last few days. I have purchased the bike but I don't have it yet. (I'm out of country) My father is picking it up on Saturday. I'll be stateside for a month June-July so that will be my first opportunity to check it over. So, Im actually starting the process very early to try and source stuff I may need for that month.
The engine stand idea came from watching videos of people working on engines on the floor and other awkward positions so I decided I'm not destroying my back doing that.

I made mine like Greg did….works well provided you have an engine stand.

Re: Custom engine stand for rebuilds
If you are considering a full rebuild, I suggest you start by looking for crankshaft bearings. When you then realise just how difficult it's going to be to find the correct colour bearings, if at all, you might want to reconsider.
Just to help, the 1100 uses the same mains as the 1000 and the conrods use the same as the 1200 (almost, the sizes are the same but there is a difference which you could get away with.)

Re: Custom engine stand for rebuilds
Yeah that's a very good point. Thankfully it will probably be more than a year before I actually do the rebuild. I'll be watching for some of those harder to find things to come available. I won't even get to see the bike I bought for another month or so. I'll give it a good inspection to see what it actually needs before I finalize my build plan.
