Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Had a stuck brake pedal, fixed it. I don't recommend this solution for normal GL's

Nice progress! I haven't checked in on this one in a while. I am glad others have a hard time struggling with those old tires and some levers. I had a flat on my mountain bike today and it was heaven to change that thing comparatively! You barely need tools. Thanks for the idea fot the homemade bearing remover, may steal that one. Tires look great, keep us updated!

Looking good. I had to laugh about the brake pedal. I've stood on those ^%&% frozen pedals until the lever bent. lol

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
Thanks to everyone for following this project. I work in my garage alone an hour or two after dinner when I can. Occasionally I get a Sat. Or Sun. Posting my thoughts and pictures on this forum reminds me of my teenage years when there was always 3 or more friends in my dads garage working on bicycles then mini bikes then dirt bikes and when we got our licences it was street bikes. We would help each other, share ideas and laughs... Great memories.
Keep the comments coming I really appreciate them. I will be traveling to New York and England for my work, so after today I will be away a week or so. Who knows, 28 hours on airplanes in 6 days I'm sure I will return with some new ideas.
No need for anyone to make a rear wheel bearing removal tool I'd be happy to ship mine to anyone who is getting ready to remove Some... Just like when I was a teenager, we help each other.

Astro buddy good luck on your journeys
at least you have a job
I just got downsized from my job in Afghanistan
I just had (with layovers) about 35 hours travel coming home from that mess.
BTW looking at you r pics of the tire removal I did not se any lubrication on that tire bead or wheel.
I even put some lube on the tire irons if the tire is really bothersome.

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
Well, I just returned from 4 days at Mid Ohio. Had my 750 in the Cafe Racer show, did well. Tried to race Moto X with my Elsinore, didn't do so well.
Heard there was some NGW folks over in the corner of the swap meet area. Got there this morning and was told they left. There was 3 GoldWing spoke wheels left behind. I picked up one front and one rear. Now I have a problem. A week or so ago, I had my Comstars powder coated black and bought a set of tires to mount on them. Now I am thinking of using the spoked wheels I found. I could send them to Buchanan's for stainless spokes and maybe 17 or 18 inch rims front and rear.
Before I completely change my wheel/ tire plan.. Does anyone know if these spoked wheels will fit on my GL 1100?

The rear hub will not fit your 1100. THe front hub can be shimmed or whatever, to fit.

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
sunnbobb - thanks, probably saved me some headaches... Wait, I can't give in this easy. Will a spoke wheel swing arm bolt up to my 1100 frame/engine? Or, is there something else I can do to make the spoke rear wheel fit?sunnbobb wrote:The rear hub will not fit your 1100. THe front hub can be shimmed or whatever, to fit.
Sorry to be so much trouble, I just think the bike should have matching wheels (spoke or Comstar) and I haven't yet found a 19" tire that matches my vision for this bike.

Re: GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride
iirc the output shaft from the engine is different too... some fussing and parts swapping needed to do it. i think alwing covers some of it in his build thread.
you don't seem to be afraid of fabrication, i think that making spoke flanges would be the simpler route and would still allow use of your stock wheels. there are several writeups around the web, these:
http://www.caferacerkits.co.uk/order-on ... sal-parts/
might fit, contact seller i guess?
this is the best writeup i've seen
http://motosynthesis.blogspot.com/p/products.html
i'd contact buchanan or someone similar to figure out what spoke/rim restrictions are before jumping in.

Thanks for the idea, converting ComStars to spokes, really looks good. I really would like to build this bike with 17" wheels front and back. I mounted my tires on the freshly powder coated Comstars today. Will think about the spoke conversion for awhile, but I will keep going with the Comsatr plan for now. Will toss the the spoke wheels in the dumpster at work this week.
