Checkout microsquirt. Its what i plan on using. I think its around $350ish, then youll need all the associated hardware and a laptop to tune with. The software is free.
I sent an e-mail to Microsquirt, thanks for the tip. It took me over a year to build my last bike, 3 months into this one and I am still trying to decide, Carbs or FI? Went to Motec and contacted Kinsler, the FI price tag was over $5,000. I get a tip yesterday and it looks like less than $500. This is why my builds take so long, I don't mind changing directions.

"If I knew then, what I know now, I would have made a different decision" Well, I learn things everyday! Thanks!

I'm pretty far down the Electronic path. Thanks to some great information from the good folks on this forum.

Bought a set of Suzuki 650 throttle bodies with injectors
Exchanged several e-mails with the nice folks at DIYautotune.com about MicroSquirt and exactly what items I will need.
Ordered a crank trigger wheel and some MSD coils
Need to figure out a good fuel pump. Any ideas?

Hi Astrowing,
I am following this with interest!
I like your idea about stainless braided hose for the top pipes !...It would certainly make getting the carbs on and off a lot easier on a more standard bike...
Here is a scan of the Haynes manual that might explain the pipe that you are asking about...I think that it is the By-pass flow.

P.S. Please can anyone tell me how to make my pictures 'Bigger' ??...Do I link to photobucket or some such site ?

Hello,

Thank you for following this project, and your input. I have been very busy with my day job lately. In a couple of weeks, I will be able to spend more time on this. I have been thinking about this Gold Wing project a lot lately and can't wait to post more of my ideas and pictures. Keep watching, this bike may not be done for awhile, but it will be unique!

Well worth the wait. All the projects are impressive in their own ways for what each person has to do in relation to their abilities, but I love the engineering projects like yours! Each piece takes so much time the only person who truly understands is you, but I'm pretty close. And I also understand the countless random moments lost in mental engineering! Keep after it, Keep us posted, and show us the fun pieces you have to fab along the way! anim-cheers1

Hello everyone, I have been very busy at my day job the last 6 months. Just started thinking about my AstroWing project the past few weeks. I bought a Mega Squirt FI system and that's about it for the last several months. I really need to get the ride height set on my bike before I do much more to it. Having the tires on the rims is a big part of getting it right. I want to try a set of Metzler Tourance dual sport tires. Can anyone recommend the best 19 front and 17 rear sizes? (130, 150 etc)

Got a little time in the garage yesterday, finally.
I used a scissor jack to get the rear ride height down and slipped the fork tubes thru the clamps to get the front set. I was able to mock-up my rear shock mounts. It is important to me to get the shock angle to match the angle of the radiator and the other forward leaning vertical tubes. Hope to get the upper shock mounts welded today.

Bought some cheap Suzuki cruiser shocks on E-Bay. $9.99 I cut away some of the fat, they may clean up and work, certainly will be fine to get my rear ride height set.

To get the angle I wanted on my rear shocks, the top mount came out farther back than I expected. Now I may have to cut out the angle support bars and locate them back near the upper shock mount. I have them set at the same angle as the for front forks. So I will have to think about this one awhile. I was reminded "If you draw this stuff first, these things don't happen" I mumble, I know, as I reach for the cutoff wheel. :)

Just ordered a set of Continental tires. Since I'm building this bike with a dirt bike theme, I'm going with dual sport tires.

Hope I got the sizes right.

Front 110/80/19
Rear 130/80/17

The stud for the right rear lower shock mount was a little too big for the shocks. Took some heat and a vice grip to get it out. (Only used the vice grip because I knew I was going to turn it down)
Stuck the stud in my cheap Harbor Freight Mini Lathe. Took off a few thousands. Worked well.

I was surprised to see the Suzuki shock eye about (.535) - slightly smaller than the Honda shock mount stud about (.600). I figured it was lock-tited in so I heated the housing and it came right out.

I want to get my wheels powder coated next, so I can mount my new tires just one time. Anyone know how to get the rubber drive cushions out of the wheel center hub?

Got a great tip from this site for removing the wheel bearings. I'll post a picture of the tool I made when I get back in the shop one evening.

Also, I will need new wheel bearings and seals. Bike Bandit is where I usually buy them, anything better/cheaper out there?

Thanks everyone, this site really helps first time Wing builders like me.
