Jimmyz and I were looking at the final drive on a cx500d, and the axle is much smaller in diameter than that of a goldwing. Did the turbo have a thicker axle?

In a earlier post you said that you had to shim the rotor and change the bearings to make this
work can you tell us what bearings you used on this which I think is a very nice looking
setup

Sunbobb, rod willis, he gave that info in post #5.

Hi sunnbobb,

You have to change the bearings on the wheel to accommodate a GL axle and us a GL final drive. Also on the front I used a 79 GL axle with a 79 nut axle for comstar wheels. 75 thru 77 the nut axle is to short.

Ah! Now it all makes sense, lol. Our big question is if one can go the other way, from a wing to a cx, Looks doable if it is a matter of bearing swaps. Thanks!

I see. Sounds like fun. I don't see why not.
Bearings may be the only way. The CX does not look like it has whole lot of wheel selections for it. Could be a new avenue for the CX as well. Lester wheels and so on.

You might could us a GL1100 final drive on the CX. It looks like it would work sense the 1100 is simpler to a CX. But then again not sure if it would fit the swing arm and the GL axle would be to big for the other side.

I often thought when looking at the comstars that if you took them apart you could make another wheel by using the hubs and wheels to build something different. But you would have to have a machine shop to make something custom between the hub and the wheel.

Very nice and those CX wheels look nice! Couple of questions if you don't mind? Are the CX wheels lighter then the comstars? What brand of paint did you use for the wheels or are they powder coated? I've been looking for that shade of gold and have had no luck. Also what clutch and brake master levers are you using? they look sick!

Thunderchild, yeah the comstars can be disassembled but not recommended by Honda.

In fact thats what I did with the rear of my CX, stock was 16" with not to many tire choices so took apart and reassembled with a CB900 18".

For front, found a CM in 18" and was a straight swap. Now I've got Distanzias in front and back.
The guys on the CX forum are pretty informative like you guys. Later.

The CX those wheels came from look pretty good. Only the turbo version had those wheels in the states. They do look good on thunderchild's bike though.
You also can use the cx500 eurosport wheels (silver) if you can get someone to ship them to the states. Or you can powder coat the wheels but it's going to start getting pricey.
for the above 82 cx500 eurosport
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CX_series
The wheels were also modified, with an 18-inch-diameter (460 mm) restyled round hole comstar with a 100–90H18 front tyre, whilst on the rear is a 120–80H18
the wheels are also on the 83 650ed sold in canada
The CX650ED or Eurosport was also introduced in 1983 and was cosmetically very similar to the CX500 Sports produced the previous year. It was aimed at the UK, European, Canadian, and Australian markets. The brakes, suspension and handling were advanced in comparison to CX500 variants. The model shares many common features with the CX500TC. Tubular frame design, TRAC anti-dive forks, Pro-Link rear suspension, twin-pot brakes and disc front and back. Though this model was not sold in the US, some have been imported by private owners.
on the mistress from the 82 500 turbo
The rear is a 17 with a 130/90-17 tire and the front is a 18 with a 110/90-18 tire
dunno what the rim sizes are for 83 650ed or turbo which are also silver,

afaik, these also are the only models that had a rear disc brake, all info from wiki
