very cool russ!

the 5 bolt lester is for the "later" bikes right? so on my 75 i'd need to get a wheel with the 5 bolt pattern for the disks, or find a 6 bolt disk with similar dimensions?

also, i'm pretty sure the cbr600 forks up to the f4 generation (maybe even f4i), before they became "cbr600rr" and went to USD forkrs, all have the same stanchion diameter so there are quite a few forks out there that might work for a swap such as this.

i had no idea the legs were so long on the old CBRs, excellent information!

Excellent work here but I'd go with a gl1100 fork assembly so you can mount the fender properly.

Great post-thanks :<)

Thanks for the kind words. It was a lot of research, trial and error.

Yes, I used the five bolt Lester wheel, the 6 bolt stock rotor will fit, but the rotor surface area is much bigger than you need. I used rotors that fit a 82 CB900 and even they are still a bit too wide for the brake pads. Does not hurt anything, but that is more surface than you will use and the wear pattern looks kind of weird only using half the rotor.

The newer CBR F4 forks will work, but do not have the speedometer stop on the fork, 94 was the last year that had one, and the first year for cartridge forks.

Yes, that would have been easier, but they are only 39mm and the CBR are 41mm and have better brake and suspension technology.

Nice! I fitted GL1200 yokes on my rig puller '76, but I decided to buzz the front mounted stop off the frame neck instead of hacking the yoke.

I was going to weld side stops onto the neck but as the bike has a Mercedes steering damper I don't think it needs them at all. Time will tell!

I think you have the same nice Honda alloy headlamp brackets, too!

ah ha, ok. i missed that back in the first post. it's better to have the brake disk too wide than the pad too wide. again, very cool writeup thanks

Beautiful work Russ.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with a 78 rebuild and considering an entirely new front end..

From the pics it looks like the CBR forks are longer than the GL's...are they?

I'm thinking of going with 83 1100 triples, forks and mag wheel/brakes which would match up nicely with the rear Lester I already have...

Unless someone has a good deal on a front Lester they'd like to sell...

The 91-94 CBR and 77 GL forks are the same length. Not certain about earlier and later CBR forks.

Russ you made me want to do that to my GL now. Your best bet is to find VF1000R front fender mounts they are the perfect diameter for the CBR forks and all you would need is a 90 degree bracket to mount the fender.

Remember my CB750 conversion, I did that initially?

It looks awesome Russ!
