Re: VAINCRE PROJECT BLOG
When you are commissioned to do a quality build, you are obligated to provide a quality product. To provide that guarantee, you must start with a quality blank...
No BOTM, as the bike is being built for someone other than myself. That is a rule I have always believed in. This build is for an awesome client. It is based on a blueprint provided by one of our most esteemed members, Octane. His guidance and documentation made something like this possible.
Every member here can follow Octane's thread, and build a quality machine. That's what I am up to. Along the way, I am going to explore additions that may improve the basework laid out by Octane. I doubt I will find many things to improve on. I will be running back and forth between Octane's Bulldog threads and Randakk's Superwing discussions. Both are awesome wing wrestlers, and have documented the path to building a noteworthy goldwing.
I sincerely appreciate every comment on this thread. I intend to hand Jerome a machine worthy of the endorsement of this group.
Let's rock.
Happy New Years all my friends!!

Re: VAINCRE PROJECT BLOG
This promises to be a terrific thread. I do have a few questions. I don't understand the language.
What does BOTM stand for?
sunnbobb, what rules are you referring to?
And the statement , "the bike must belong to the person that owns it," doesn't make sense to me.

........ ...."BOTM" = Bike of the Month
............."Rules" -a figure of speech, a metaphorical reference. eg, see rule 12A(b) 13.6 of the Member handbook.
...."Bike must belong to the person who owns it"..I mean, the bike should not be a build for another customer. The NGW Club BOTM is about the folks who pour their hearts into their own bikes, with their own hands...

Re: VAINCRE PROJECT BLOG
Parts are starting to roll in now. I purchased a new Accel coil set up as well as a still in the original packing Dyna III. Finding a period correct Dyna III in its original packing was a real thrill. According to the CB750 guys, the Dyna III packs more wallop than the Dyna S and is more reliable due to the electronics being removed from the area of the engine. Barnett Clutch should be here Monday. The frame and tank are over at Skagit Powdercoaters, and CharlieP has all the small Parts at his place for powdercoating. I have been in communication with Fishhead Big Brakes and will be sending him the rims once they are relaced. I am looking forward to being able to show some forward progress on this baby.
Lastly, I took the emblems and hardware off of the body panels to prep them for sanding. If anybody wants to swap for these, now is the time to speak up. I would be willing to take a trade, but only if the panels sent to me are perfect outside and inside, and sanded ready for paint. I figure the labor of sanding a set is worth the trade for near perfect paint on the OEM's. The plate around the fuel gauge needs to be perfect too. This build is going to look as good or better than new, so I have exacting standards for the parts I use.

I'd be interested in the "Honda" emblems off the faux tank. Don't have much to trade. Maybe $ ? I could pick them up from you. I live up in Blaine and I'm always going to Anacortes. Gordy

Re: VAINCRE PROJECT BLOG
More parts arrived today. The wait for powdercoating and the clutch is killing me!
LOL
Shown here is a complete hydraulic clutch setup from an 84 GL1200. Using guidance from a thread in ShopTalk, I will be converting it for use in the GL1000.
Also shown is a fork seal kit from AllBalls. I have never used one of their kits, but according to sources, they provide a seal 2x better than OEM. Also shown is a set of Steering bearings from all balls. These will convert the OEM ball bearings to modern roller bearings. I will toss a picture of the old bearings when I get back to the shop.
Lastly, I need to call on the resources of this board. Can anyone find a set of these mufflers? So far I have found they were made in Germany, and the website where I think they may have some answers is in German!!! I'll sweeten the deal. If anyone can find where I can actually order a set, I will polish your valve covers for free! I may end up having to fabricate them.
Thanks gang.

Re: VAINCRE PROJECT BLOG
There's an 83 in the for sale section that has a painted set that look the same, you might see if he knows here to get them.

Yeah, I checked those out, they were fabbed from the original muffler. The quest continues... Heck, for no cost, I will send a set of polished valve covers to the person that finds a set of these mufflers!!!

Thanks Alan! Another lead is good. I tried to translate that page, but it appears they may have either gone out of biz or no longer sell the mufflers. Frustrating!!!
I also tried the link from this conversation to no avail..
....translates to "no longer in stock"

I got the reply: Es wurde kein entsprechendes Produkt im Shop gefunden bzw. das Produkt ist leider ausverkauft.germany you become this exhaust system (called EXORZIST) at louis.de for the price 49,95 EURO
49,95 Euro = 61,2807 USD US Dollar
