I planning on (as my next-next project) turning that
76 GL that I have standing there in the corner of my workshop
into a 'Bobber'.
Saw a pair of 16" rim GL1000 wheels on ebay...just had to have them.
Here they are:

They are in fine shape, and I'm sure they'll look brillinant on my bobber. Nice and fat.
On the rims it says:
Rear: AKRONT 16"-3'50-D-40-583-DOT
Front:AKRONT 16"-3'50-D-40-184-DOT
OK I get the diameter and width, the "DOT" is the Department of Transportation certification..what does the rest mean?
Is the 583/184 the month/year of manufacture?
as in 5 month of 1983
They are wearing "5.00s16" tires.
I've been looking at some new tires. They are marked:
Rear: MT90-16/74 H
Front: MT90-16/73 H
...argh, theres too many different tire classification systems.
MT90 is the Alpha designation for what in metric is 130/90,
meaning the tire is 130mm wide and (90% of 130=) 11,7 mm high
, witch again in Inches are called a "5.00/5.10 tire"
...am I right so far?
the 74 and 73 is the load designation (827 lb. and 805 lb.)
and the H is speed rating. H = up to 130 mph / 210 km/h
but I don't see anything telling me if they'll fit my 3.5 inch rims ???
I mean the 130 mm (5.00/5.10 inch) is the width of the tyre at its widest...right...not where it mounts at the rim ?
...or not ???
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP !
will they fit ?
Thanks
