Need help getting a spark...

#1

Post by Derek77 »

I had a spark, but then I took off front fairing, wiring harness, and lost the spark. It's a 77 Goldwing with an electronic ignition. I'm new to this bike, could someone give me a point in the right direction for this? And also... where is the signal flasher?

did you just take off the fairing and the fairing wire harness? sounds like you may have disconnected something else... no telling where the elctronic ignition may have connected

Hey Derek77;
As for your flasher location, the stock mount is behind the left side of the fake fuel tank/ POD... open the top with your key, remove the junk tray and unscrew the cover remove the cover and it's the round one... as for your lack of spark, First make sure the kill switch is in the run or on position then check the wire connections at the coils and make sure they are all conected, follow the electronic ignition wires to where they need to be conected, make sure your wires from the handle bars are all properly conected... Hopfully Octane or Frenchy will get you a wireing diagram...Hope This Helps

checked out wiring diagram killswitches are good, have power to coils, still no spark. I think my electronic ignition died, the bike has been sitting for 26 years. Anyone know where I could get a used one or how I can double check this? no paperwork on the ignition. thanks.

I am not sure how you can check an electronic ignition, but once again I would make sure everything is connected (and the connectors are clean) before anything else. if you still have the orginal points plate, you could always hook that up to see if it will run... but I bet the PO threw that out when the electronic was put on.... have you pulled the pluggs and seen if there is actually a spark at a plug? (or just pull one wire and put a spare plug on it and see if it sparks)

does the "77" mean your bike is a '77? where y'all from?

Post a picture or two of the ignition & (if applicable) the control module. The ignition can be tested by using a 12v lamp in the same fashion you would to set the timing. Make sure there is positive voltage to the control unit.

Post pics, & we can go from there. :!:

I can get you a new Dyna reasonably!
