tough call

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

tough call

I have just ran into a problem  A little while ago some woman was selling this 83 GL650 Silverwing 1/2 dressed with a back light problem. (would kill battery sometimes) & was asking $900 for it (milage unknown) so i offered a stupid price of $500.00 & she said she would only take $700. so i declined & told here good luck on the sale & if she doesn`t sell it my offer still stands ;) . (wait it gets better) This guy at work tells me of this guy that has 2- 81 cx500`s for sale for $250 , one with title & one without & both havn`t ran in a couple of years & the one with the title had one dead cylinder & him & his buddy thru everything in it & still no go , so down the basement it went (crawl space in redneck terms  ) So what should i do ??? go for the running GL650 or go for the non running twins & hope to fix the problem.

an extra 250 for a runner seems like the right deal. I'd do all three!

Get the runner. Offer the other guy $100 for both.

Yep, buy the runner. the other 2 will stay there for a while, and you can pick 'em up even cheaper!

Well i didn`t buy it , as it sure was a neglected bike . I started it up (first touch of the button) it had a funky sound to it (doesn`t sound like my cx) The clutch was way off , so i adjusted it (still think it need a clutch later) The fairing was very floppy & the radio was missing the knobs & the rain cover was broken off. The front brakes sucked & wasn`t sure it i had to stop fast if i could . The gas cap key hole was filled with JB weld looking stuff & all you did was turn the cap & it opened , the left side cover back tab was broken & fixed (not a real good job though) I used my volt meter & at 5,000rpm`s it was only charging at 12 volts & he said it sat in the rain one day & shorted something out & since then he had this problem ( i doubt that) He said he put a new battery in it & it would go dead sometimes out on the road. The new rear tire had 3 year old tire crackes in it & the rear brake stuck & somehow installed the adjuster upside down. He said him & his buddy did the head gaskets , but then 10 min later he`s telling me the engine was switch & after that the kick stand is too shory. So he said that he would take $400 thanks but no thanks (i`d only give him $250& thats a little too much)

You got to know when to hold 'em,
Know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away,
And know when to run..........

Sounds like you made the right choice.

I'd buy the runner, a buddy of mine got 3 cx 500 engines given to him all with dead cylinders. Not a good core between the bunch. He does have a runner tho and they are fun.

Well if the runner didn`t look that bad it would be in my garage right now ;) If he did go lower i`d dump my 83 CX650c engine in it & part that cx650c bugger out.
