i think i want a cx

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

I know what you mean.. kinda Moto-Guzzi looking...

I will have to say that every one that I've seen around here was in pretty bad shape and didn't impress me. But every once in a while one comes up on craigs list that looks pretty tempting...

I just don't know if you can get your money back out of it once you do get it back into riding condition.

I wish you had had that urge sooner. Two months ago a shopw went out of buz and dropped one for 200 bucks.

Best bike I ever owned. I really liked that little cx500C...

Well if your looking for one , try to get an 82 500 as it had the better ignition. The early ones 78-81 suffered with ignition whoos (pulse ignition on stator) also cam chain trouble , water pump seal , & also cracked fans. The good part , is there pretty cool to go screaming around town (they love to rev) The 650 CX-GL are faster & get better gas milage & have an automatic cam chain adjuster (but they still wear out) Also The cx650c & GL650 was made for one year (1983) & is pretty much a U.S. model & getting harder to get parts for over the 500. The GL500 & GL650 share pretty much everything but the engine. (here`s my cx650c , it needs somemore work & runs like a little raped ape)

They should have listened to Moto Guzzi! I had my Guzzi for 10 years and never had any problems with it- none. No ignition problems, no cam chain problems, and of course no water pump problems! That being said still would like to have a turbo.

I recently parted a GL 500, a first for me....I swear the darn thing was designed by General Motors!!! Son of a gun was a pain to work on, everything just seemed in the wrong place, or stuff I wanted to get at was buried. My hat's off to anybody that does any major work on these, cuz I think they are a PITA!!!
Peace,

A couple of years ago a cager pulled out in front of me and wrecked my '80 CX500D. That was the best bike I've ever owned. Had it for 5 years and the only repairs I ever did to it was fork seals. Nearly 35,000 miles and no stator trouble, no leaky water pump seal; it just ran.

If I ever find another CX or GL for sale that is as nice as mine was, it'll be mine.

There's a couple for sale here that have been for sale for at least 6 months...I keep waffling about a getting either a CX650e or a CB900Custom
as a winter project...the 650 I'd do an ST1100 type look with and the CB900 well, I think I'd strip it and rat it out.

Man, I think I need a cigarette...

I really like the CX line - all of 'em - standards, Customs, GLs, Turbos, 500s and 650s.

I've owned two over the years - a 500 standard and a 500 Custom. Rode around on a buddy's GL500, too. I did all the 'hard' maintenance, and I was never bothered. Motor out to change a water pump seal? Sure, my then-two-year old kept me company in the garage, and I had it out in a couple hours. No worries.

But the one that really floats my boat is that CX650E that was never available in the States. You get the benefit of sporty styling a'la the turbo, the benefits of the 650 over the 500, but not the cost and complexity of the Turbo. My own styling preference puts the 650 cruiser at the bottom of the list, although I really do like the 500 version.

If one of those Canadian 650s ever came up gray-market nearby, I'd have some serious thinking to do....

:-D
