Another Goldwing Success Story...

#1

Post by Oldboy »

Ya gotta love these old bikes! On June 26th we headed out for the Cabot Trail in New Brunswick, then on to PEI and returning back through the New England states. We stayed at Lake Placid for a couple of days and then the Thousand Islands in Gananoque Ontario, again for a couple of days before returning home just west of Toronto Ontario. 4,994.0 km's. We rode in rain, sleet and 90 degree weather, and had a blast the whole time. My '82 pulled a harbor freight trailer with a car top carrier the whole way and didn't miss a beat. If I'd known the Cabot Trail was so hilly I would have put a new clutch in before I left, but the 28 year old clutch did the job with no complaints. A couple of hills I had to hold at 3,500 rpm's in 3rd, but she still made it.
Hope your summer rides are as good as ours was..

Cheers....

Very neat. I want to do this ride some year. Was PEI very crowded or expensive?

Did you take the ferry at Bar Harbor? I was looking at that trip last year but concluded I didn't have enough time off for it. I'll get to it before too much longer though.

PEI was good, but we thought it had more coastal rides, we were wrong. We went to the eastern tip and saw the light house there , then stayed at a newly re-open motel (first customers).. it was perfect. Then headed to Charlottetown and over to Summerside. We took the Confederation bridge back to the main land, that was neat, 13 km's of bridge!
Sagebrush, Never went to Bar Harbour, we came through Canada and headed directly to the Cabot Trail. After PEI we took Hwy 1 to St. Stephens and entered the States there. I heard that there was a catamaran along the eastern sea board that was fast and I believed had a Casino in it, but it stopped running. Is this the one you meant?
All in all it was good!

That's the one, just looked it up; shut down at the end of 2009 because of removal of Canadian govt. support. It ran between Bar Harbor, Me and Yarmouth, NS. Cut off a ton of miles. Bar Harbor is a neat place to visit and stay as well if you ever get back up that way.

That cat wasn't called the Bluenose was it? I'd hate to see that shut down but maybe that ran to Halifax. I'm getting senile with my New England stuff.

Uh - so how come you didn't stop in and see me when you were in Gan? :-D

I got a garage full of bikes and parts, a pool, cold beer, anim-cheers1 barbecue and I know where the deals and best places to ride are around here.

Maybe next time eh?

Great trip though. Been some of those places myself.

Got any more pics?
