Go to each Gov agency's web page and google disbursed camping,
(that is what its called)

The BLM, allows you to do disbursed camping basically anywhere for 25 days, and then
you must move so many miles.
In Kentucky The daniel boone, allows disbursed camping...

Most federal parks, under the BLM, or Dep of Ag, or US Forestry service, allows disbursed
camping....Also most have camping faculities you can pay at.

Most states have state parks that have camping faculities, that cost like 10 or 15 bucks.

There is enough camping that will get you all the way across the country, you must just
stay away for the city parks..

If you were towing a trailer camper behind your motorcycle Walmart would allow you to
camp for free, at any of the walmarts.

Basically most federal parks allow disbursed camping, you just have to get your

Here is the US forest service rules on disbursed, camping,
Most parks in the east belong to the US forest service

http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/r ... ndex.shtml

Here is the BLM, this covers the whole west,

http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/st__geor ... mping.html

Even states allow disbursed camping, although you would have to look up the rules
in each state, Here is minnesota

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_forests/camping.html

Here is michigan

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-15 ... --,00.html

So since the gov owns about 80% of the country basically you can camp anywhere
in these areas.

I think KOA's are not a bad deal if theres two or more to split the fees for tent camping. Trailer camping or just by yourself is a little steep. But you get all the goodies and it is safe.

Out west, while driving the long roads, not the interstates, but on the long road,
you will mostly be passing through BLM land... this means your free to just camp.

It takes some planning but basically a man could live free in a tent here in america.

This is a little off the wall, but...when I was younger, in my twenties, when I went roaming around the US of A, the best source of where to stay cheap or free, was the waitresses in the local cafe's.. sometimes they could be very accomodating.. ;)

hahaha yea most definitely this^^ the last thing you need is a bunch of bullet holes in your tent, that's how bugs get in.

I know it's not really preferred, but if you're in a bind for a place to stay in a city, just spread a blanket out during the DAY and take a nap then. You don't usually catch hell for it when the parks are open, especially if you look like you passed out after a picnic.

The down side of course is you have to do a lot of your traveling at night.
