I'll qualify that, there were 3 days of actual long distance "riding" on a 10 day business trip, 600+ miles on the 15th, NC to CT:
17N to 64 to 13N (across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge), then across the Delaware Memorial Bridge, 95N to NJ Turnpike, off at exit 10.
287 up and across the Tappan Zee Bridge, 15N (Merritt parkway) to 95 at Milford and on up to Uncasville, Ct.
I departed at 0430 and arrived just before 3 PM. Hit a bit of rain on the 287 leg, but not enough to stop and don rain gear.
Friday the 20th I left the casino (had a Seminar there) and rode 70 miles to Stratford, CT in a steady rain.
Tuesday the 24th I finished up "work" at 2 PM and departed Stratford, CT and arrived in Uniontown, PA just before 10 PM.
Merritt Parkway, 287 again, then I80W. Took 99S past State College (no stop, my sister wasn't home) and 219 to Somerset, then 31W to 119S.
During that day's ride, I encountered a Pennsylvanian on an 85 GL1200 Interstate on the side of I80, just west of Bellefont. I stopped, he was out of gas. I had just filled up my tank so I pulled the inlet line from my (still leaking) fuel pump and gave hime 32 oz. of gas in some empty water bottles to get him going. He (Dave) was most appreciative. At best, that gave him 10 miles or so. He got off the next exit, but I didn't see any gas station signs there....
Wednesday morning, left Uniontown, stopped in to let mom feed me in Markleysburg, then pressed on to Fredericksburg. Took 40, I68 to Cumberland, then 51 down through Paw Paw and to 17S. 37 around Winchester, 17S/50E then Goose Creek to 66 and more 17. Then 29 after Warrenton, down to Brandy Station, 669 to Rt.3. Stopped at my son's, nobody home (2:30 pm). Didn't feel like back-tracking to my brother's so I pressed on south on 95. Got fed up with 95 quickly and committed a grevious error, taking 30E (a HIGHLY reccomended route instead of 64/295/95) from King's Dominion through West point toward Williamsburg / 64. Hit every possible congestion point from there, Ft. Eustis (it's a MERGE, not a stop!), etc. it all stunk until I got past 664 / 64 and through Deep Creek. 17S to the casa and two happy mutts waiting on me.
The pool had turned green from all the rain, but I got in it anyway! Shock took care of that problem overnight, whew!
I averaged 35.7 mpg overall, with some tanks getting over 40 and most of the interstate tanks at 31-35. Doing 80 on 80 netted the 31. I did not take any pictures, but the mountains of Pa, MD, and WV were beautiful. I have since installed my new fuel pump, cleaned and gapped my spark plugs (cylinder #1 is the oil burner) and cleaned off the bugs.
