I finished fabbing the manifolds that mount to the front of the carbs. 23 holes in each and the fuel run to the left outboard carb is 6" deep.
The left side is essentially done and mounted. The right side tubes are progressing.
K & N universal filters are over $100 for a set of 4. I gotta figure a way around that for this prototype. I don't need filters to run it on the test stand, but I keep thinking about everyone's comments on having sufficient restriction on the incoming air.

Looking good. It seem's like a lot of added weight though on those fiberglass intake tubes. Maybe some bracing in final stages.
On the air intake. You could always just partially cover the inlet opening. Maybe cover it half up with duct tape. A little hillbilly but for simple test stand running it should be ok. I don't think the air pods will restrict it a whole lot more than nothing at all anyway.

Had an 82 CB900F with pods that the PO 'tuned' with bits of aluminum foil taped to the pods.

They are honeycombed pretty good. ACAD says they add .64# to each side. In that photo - just above the top left rocker cover bolt you can see a bent strap bracket the goes to the backside of the manifold plate. It's holding the weight really well and the 1 3/4" fuel fill line is real rigid. The mounts at the cylinder head are in-line though and don't provide much (hardly any) side-to-side support. I have a brace designed that will run cross-bike and pick up the mounting holes on the top of the carbs (the ones that originally held the chrome trim pieces that held the clips for the plug wires). I don't want to go back to the frame with any supports. I'm concerned about different vibration characteristics if I was to go back to the frame (and for this first effort there will be no frame anyway).
This evening I'll work on the linkages again. When my place of employment closed I lost my access to a really nice TIG welder. I have a small MIG welder but it's sloppy compared to the work I could do with the TIG. The new link arms are pretty small and the TIG would have been nice to tack them to the stock arms on the carbs. Also, the stock throttle levers appear to be stainless. The steel I bought for the new link arms is plain cold roll. So long as they stick for a while I'll be pleased.
It's all just problem solving. I haven't run into a show stopper yet and I don't anticipate that I will. (At least until I try to start it up.)

There are a lot of little pieces in the linkage. I'll look to purchase some of them, but most will have to be made. That's slow going.
Getting the front manifold plates done was huge. I have one more tube to glass up and then I can start assembling the right side.
Thanksgiving is in the ballpark provided the weather cooperates. I don't have any heat in the barn and my tootsies get cold.

Fantastic progress.
Watching this I kept thinking about the new EU legislation they are trying to push through here....the "Anti-tamper" laws.
The very name says it all...."tampering" is what monkeys or children might do.....the idiot legislators seem to think that development should only be done by the big motor manufacturers, and that what they produce must be left 100% stock.
God help the aftermarket parts industry if this goes through, hundreds of thousands of people will be out of work....

Get that gas line run to the barn greg! The winters around here aren't going away and it will be that much more comfortable when the wife finds the other 78 hiding in the trailer

If she finds it - I'll have to move the bike out of the trailer and move me into the trailer. Way cheaper to heat than the whole barn.
I managed to affix the new throttle links to the butterfly shafts by drilling and tapping the ends of the shafts. I didn't get a photo but it looks real clean and doesn't affect the ability to go back to stock. So far there have been no modifications to the carbs and I'm far enough along that it looks like there won't be (other than maybe jetting but that's way in the future).

Don't worry too much about jetting until late spring early summer. Or even a little later. There is always a little compromise on the street. So you want to jet it for about 65-70 degree's or so.
