Cost to Paint Tank and Side Covers
I am looking at getting the tank covers and side covers repainted on my 76 LTD. Does anyone know what range of cost I would be looking at to have this done. I have already purchased a new decal set.

Re: Cost to Paint Tank and Side Covers
I would bet a good shop would cost $1000 or more. They would need to take a computerized pic of the paint to get the mixture. They take usually 3 different shots with a very special camera of a good spot on your existing panel. The paint codes are very hard to find.

Re: Cost to Paint Tank and Side Covers
Do you want to repaint it as original or do you just want to change color? Do you need to refill some holes on the actual body?
Always look on the bright side of life buddy

I believe it is a candy brown maybe a root beer brown with a candy clear coat..A well done root beer brown metallic would look fine to the untrained eye unless you really just gotta have it the exact color. An automotive painter may give you a good price and help you match the color, he probably wont color sand it but maybe he will, Color sanding is always best done at home but there again a good spray may not even need it.
Maybe a RB Brown with a clear candy to coat would work. I`m going to be conservative and say a good job complete 500 with a good match to the original paint.

If you have a good original panal to match to it is possible to get what you want.
Probably wont be cheap.
Best idea is to find a paint dealer to scan the paint.
They should be able to find a formula that is close.
from there find a painter who knows how to tint.
He can adjust the formula to get an exact match.
But you will have to figure the extra materials into the cost of the job.
Good luck
In my opinion what you say you want will cost between $600-1500 depending on which paint system used and your painters labor rate.
Expect to pay more for a very skilled professional.

Re: Cost to Paint Tank and Side Covers
for that kind of money you could buy a decent paint sprayer and paint and do it yourself..also Sherwin Williams will put a custom color in a spray can not cheap but way less than $1,000??? If done right rattle can paint jobs can look very good..5 coats, clear coat on top etc. etc. 5000 grit sanding between coats..etc. etc. A guy on I think Saunders site did a full how to on painting with both paint gun and spray paint.

Re: Cost to Paint Tank and Side Covers
Found this on the net this morning. http://www.ngwclub.com/File%20Share/Hon ... acquer.pdf May be helpful, may not. I've never heard of the LTD color referred to as "CANDY ALPHA RED."

Don't know if this is where he got his. A listing of suppliers from ebay. They don't show one for an LTD but I know one of them does carry them. Just send them a message and ask.
