Re: Rear Shock Rebuild, GL1100I
Yeah, I planned on them being just over 1" shorter.
Just want to know the specs on them and to flush all the crap out. Later.

They're already apart but just waisting fluid by pouring in and slowly cleaning out crap. Would engine cleaner have any negative effect inside there.
As far as part #, online I see two for the same part. Later.

Re: Rear Shock Rebuild, GL1100I
I have my rear shock apart following the instructions. every things is going well. But I am confused as to where the spring wire ring shown in the picture goes. The parts are- internal snap ring washer, seal, thin washer, bearing and spring wire. The parts are listed as they came out except for the spring wire. it expanded and slid over all other parts. Again where does it belong.

Re: Rear Shock Rebuild, GL1100I
If you forget the fluid, , here's another way to fill the shock. Attach the air hose and immerse the end in ATF. Compressing/de-compressing the shock will suck it up. That's how it's done on the GL500 monoshock.

How does one accomplish "complete" disassembly - meaning further than the seal replacement procedure?82aspy wrote:i mean complete disassembly, its the only way to check internal partsCBX n GL man wrote:They're already apart but just waisting fluid by pouring in and slowly cleaning out crap. The FSM makes no mention of anything other than that.......

Re: Rear Shock Rebuild, GL1100I
basically you have to set up a jig,
folks usually make it outa wood, along with nuts/washers/a few foot long threaded rods combo,
to secure the shock and then unscrew it to get inside,
info/pix are out there

Oem 1100/1200 air shocks look the same until one looks closer. Everything measures the same less the 1200 shafts/rubber boots are 1" longer.
When you see scoring on the chrome shafts like these, they are toast.

Re: Rear Shock Rebuild, GL1100I
they can also come apart while riding, due to rust fatigue on the outer shell
