I became friends with a fellow and we still are. It was 1975 and there was a quarter mile
flat track at the state line near me. He came from battleground, wa and raced over there.
He had a nickel plate framed bike with a 250 bultaco motor. No front fender or brake, a red coffin tank, street tires and pull back handle bars. His leathers and helmet were all white on one side and blue on the other. Had never seen that type of racing before and it was fun to watch. One guy had a two cylinder yamaha. Then the unlimiteds ran, the big Harley's and
a BSA and a triumph. Loud and even faster. Those were the days. I drive by the old track,
and it always brings back memories. I just reread my post and the track was a 1/8 mile
track, very short.

Cool! I went to high school with a guy who was quite competitive. His Dad did the wrenching, and they spent most of their summer weekends at tracks throughout the Midwest. Unfortunately, he suffered a crash off-track and spent most of his senior year in the hospital. He never rode again... :(

They have a big event every year for vintage motorcycles that includes flat track races. Think over 40 acres of old motorcycles in all ages, shapes, and condition. I missed the races last year, but I'm definitely hitting them this year. Probably going to spend my entire weekend there as well. It's that good.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- Behaving Itself Rather Nicely
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Learning The Joys of 4 Cable Carbs
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

I saw a vid on youtube of Kenny Roberts at the Springfield Mile flat track doing a commemorative lap on a Yamaha TZ750, as he was ready to head out onto the track he kept rapping the throttle on that TZ and I swear that bike sounded like a crazed animal waiting to be unleashed. I already knew about the Yamaha TZ 750's but that was the first time I actually heard one so after that vid I kept doing youtube searches for more TZ action just so I could hear more. I love the sound of any engine making serious HP I don't care who makes it. :)
