hello! first wing

#1

Post by sickradsean »

just picked up a 77 gl1000 and am excited to get into it. ive been riding a 1980 cb750c for the past few years and am pleasantly surprised at the difference in the ride. im currently digging through the "new 2 you" section, what would be the top list of stuff to go through first?

-plugs
-oil
-tires(fine)
-belts
-brakes(fine)

anything else thats specific to this bike?

Welcome from Michigan.
I think the CB750 light is pretty much the same as the wing.
Belts first, then the tune-up stuff. These are interference engines.

Welcome, you may find when removing the fairing that the headlight ears are still there and that the headlight in the fairing will fit. Some add on fairings used the stock headlight and left the ears in place.

Howdy from Calgary, welcome to the club. I would just follow the instructions in the New-2-You section, good advice in those words. The headlight kinda depends on what was removed the PO, until you take it all apart and see what you have, it's tough to say what you really need. But lots of options if you go the custom headlight route. If you need any stock parts, ask in the Wanted section and one of us might have what you need. Good Luck.

well after swearing up and down at the POs wiring job (hardwired with all the same color wire! mostly pig tailed and taped together  ), i finally got the faring off. from what i can tell all of the OG wires are in tact. the ears are on the forks and i do have a headlight bucket, but thats it. no mounting HW, no trim rings, so i cant even tell if the headlight in the faring came from that bucket. ill post in the wanted section to see if i can come up with a new assembly.

Welcome to wingdom, you might pull the wheel and inspect the final drive, clean off all the old grease with brake clean and re apply some honda moly 60 paste or guard dog gd525..the final drives usually are neglected or have the wrong grease.
