Holly Carb conversion
I thought I was buying a Weber carb for 40 bucks off a running bug, but turns out its is a holly R6657-1 and looks almost identical to weber but i didnt know about the weber logo . I cant find much on the carb. I am interested in putting this on my Gl1000 which has a nissan carb on it now and i cant get idle right, engine loads up and dies. I know what i need to do as far as manifold plate. Is there anyone who has used this carb or know of a thread where it was used? Can the carb be tuned?

Re: Holly Carb conversion
also didn't find any info on the carb, you'd be on your own with that,
i wouldn't consider anything other than the few carbs that are known to work for the most part after bolting them on,
even there you are likely to have issues to deal with,
i couldn't point you to a single thread, that covers all the basics quick, including all parts that may be required for any particular setup,
there are many short threads reporting stellar results, but they amount to here today, gone tomorrow with no followup support,
you can easily end up spending or throwing away a fair chunk of change going scc, and end up with endless fiddling and ongoing issues,
if scc is something new to someone i would recommend spending days reading the volumes of endless info available out there first, to then narrow down what setup may be best suited to you, before putting any money into scc,
sifting thru the reams of info that is out there is just the beginning,

Re: Holly Carb conversion
i think the carb you have is "Holley / Weber 5200 style carburetors"
http://quadrajetparts.com/choke-thermos ... -1867.html
tons of 5200s out there with tons of variations, dunno the details on yours but a copy of a weber 32/36 variant
years ago the weber 32/36 was the main focus carb gw wise, endless tuning issues mostly and folks have mostly moved on and away from that one, general views were too much/big carb to start with then adapting that for gw use and getting that to run right
the latest trends as far as 2 barrel carbs go have been ~ 32/32 sized carbs that comes down to 2 main camps with vastly differing views on setups,
one side still reporting low rpm richness issues and as of yet, identifying or focusing on a baseline carb or setup to start with, it's mostly a free for all, all over the place (mind you TONS of testing stuff) ..last i heard or paid close attention
the other side has a 123 page thread on the go (that speaks VOLUMES) which as far as i'm concerned is mostly a waste of time, the theme being and driven by mostly 1 person ~ do exactly as i say and all will be well
whereas i'm running 2 sets of original (afaik) carbs that are working great, with no issues

Re: Holly Carb conversion
I have a set of original carbs that need work. A couple parts and kits. Sounds like my best bet would be to get them together.
