BUY of the week

#1

Post by JOLLY »

I found a 1984 and a 1986 interstate in a back yard. Looked like they had been there for a wile.the 86 had been wrecked. I bought the pair for $400. I have got both to start and run. the 86 was well taken ed care of, runs great. the 84 needs carbs worked, but other than that. it sounds good. the 86 has a parts only title. Cant understand why... just plastic beat up bad.
I have done so much with so little for so long, I think I could do anything with nothing at all, in no time flat. My best friend Buddy (my service dog) loves to ride as much as I do.!!! I would hope everyone would use a product called (Ride On) sealant & Balancer, in their tires, because it has saved my life.

Doesn't take much to "total" an old bike like that. Almost any plastic damage would total one. Primarily as no shop will try to hunt up the parts and color match the paint on a 30 year old bike.

Can you 'un-title' it to be able to re-register it if you repair it properly? We have the facility over here that, if a vehicle has been written off (under certain categories) by the insurance companies, once it is rebuilt it can be take to a MOT (Ministry of Transport) testing depot and put through a road-worthiness test.
Obviously, something that has been very severely damaged would not come under this.

Here in the U.S. it would be dependent on the state in which you are trying to get a new title. I live in Illinois and it is almost impossible to get anything registered without a clean title. No title, salvage title etc I shy away from.

Aside from that I think he got a great buy! I'd have probably jumped on it had I seen it.

Kevin, great find there!

The I and the A are both hard to make naked but the I is easier because of the analog gauges. Unless you want to really go radical. I suggest you post your build in the Underground customizing forum.
