During the throes of winter, I succumbed to Naked Goldwing lust and purchased a 1982 GL1100 standard via Craigslist.

Welcome James! If you need someone to verify his work by taking it out into the hills, I'm your man!
Just kidding. But you should have him immediately remove those rear floorboards with the rusty undersides from an otherwise gorgeous motorcycle! I had an '84 Aspencade with those, but they had the chrome plates on the underside. Hard to find, but lacking them, pegs would be better than those undersides. Beautiful color on that clean machine. Should be a fun trip.

Thank you for the welcome. Never fear, the floorboards are gone! That photo was from the original craigslist ad, there were passenger pegs attached when I purchased her. I did not miss them for even a moment.
Keep your eyes open - you may see her out and about this weekend, as some shake down runs are in order.
Seems she may not have always been that beautiful, vibrant blue. I found some polaroid photographs in a box of old papers (and a service manual!) that came along with the bike. This is what I found:

My speedo is over at Dick's Speed-O-Tach for some rebuilding. I'm guessing your familiar with the shop?

You have ever been a herald of woe. Troubles follow you like crows, and ever the oftener the worse.
Im late to the welcome party but hello and welcome anyway.
Your plan to get the bike home sounds like an adventure in the making.
Good luck on your journey.
