That is true, although the chain of ownership (and odometer readings) is documented on the title for this particular bike.

Probably either not enough grease or, more likely, not aligned.

One more possibility occurs to me: I just remembered that if you were to look at my 650's splines right now they would look a lot like that . An o-ring failed, dirt got in and accelerated the wear and then I cleaned it out, greased it and put in a new (or "good used") o-ring to get it through the rest of the season until I can get a new flange and do it right.

I'll have to take a closer look at the o-ring on final assembly. Thanks for the tip!

Look at the parts drawing for the specific model. IIRC, some have only 1 o-ring and some have 2; I only have 2 bikes and I can never remember which mine have without looking it up :-?

Sidecar Bob wrote:TLbranth: Moly 60 is mentioned in the FSM so it did exist when these bikes were made. As I have mentioned previously, the wording in the FSM and particularly the part that is in capitals seems to indicate that they were trying to make sure we knew that they wanted the main ingredient of the grease to be lithium and the moly to be present but not the main constituent.

Re the Loctite Moly Paste, I have a hard time believing their "no metals" claim when the MSDS mentions the metals molybdenum and barium. https://www.fastenal.com/productimages/ ... 150931.pdf
It cannot be suitable for this application anyway because it does not contain lithium, which is the main component that the FSM specifies for the lubricant.

I'll ask again: What is the3 condition of the o-ring(s) and did they do the correct alignment procedure when they put it back together?
Isn't moly short for molybdenum?

Yes. Molybdenum Disulfide. I'm so confused by all the conflicting information on this stuff, I've emailed Stu Oltman and requested a quick reply. Whatever he says I'd consider to be accurate. I'll post when I hear.
