Spray painting

#1

Post by GWPete »

Hi, Just acquired a tank and seat unit for a XJR1300 that was recently wrecked (rear ended by hit and run jerk) the tank is metal the seat surround plastic, the tank has minor dent, the question is ???? the undercoat/body filler I will use on the tank is it right for the plastic seat surround, my spray painting skills are good but preparation is questionably, any hints.
Thanks GWPete.

With a suitable primer to act as a barrier against solvents in the paint you should have no problem painting the plastic with the same paint as the tank.

BUT filler that is designed to work on metal may not be suitable for plastic. It is always best to use a flexible filler on plastic and even better to use a filler made of the same plastic (like the ABS slurry so many of us have used on Honda plastics).

Good advice on the filler...here's a product you might consider

Bondo makes a filler for flexible car bumpers that comes in 2 tubes like epoxy. I have had good results with that on small holes.
