What engine is this

Post by commitedskater15 »

Hopefully someone can easily identify this engine. I Believe the 1E- on the SN means 1000 engine, but I'm not sure of that or the year. Thanks!

Its a bit of a mystery to me and to the junkyard owner of it as well. From what he knows, it was pulled from a running bike for unknown reasons.

Side Question:
Can an '84 1200 engine be put in a gl1100 frame?? My guess is that the mounts will not match up...but just seeing if anyone else has tried.
Thanks, Art

Been done several times. The engine mounts are the same. Issues with the back of the engine and one of the frame crossover tubes and the driveshaft. I think I remember that they swap out the output shaft from the 1100 into the 1200 engine and use and adjusting tool (hammer) to gain clearance to the rear of the engine. Cyborg built a 1200 into a 1000 frame and so has someone else here.

84 should fit in nicely. The 1000's were a bit tight and may require some love from a hammer. The 84's wiring is closer to the 1100's wiring also depending on year and model. You will need to swap the output shaft to be able to install the snap ring for the 1100 shaft.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
