Winter strip down

#1

Post by ofb »

Hi guys , about to start the full strip down for winter rebuild - well paint and powder coated frame , heads off for valve stem seals and a few other bits....
Looking for the wise words on the order to strip and rebuild the wing , mainly sequence of removal and install of the engine / loom / fuel tank and swing arm ? I dont want to trip up fitting a part that hinders something else :-D
I'm no stranger to this work , but the wing is a different animal to all past toys

TIA

Take lots of pictures of the removal of parts and their locations, I find it really helps in putting things back together months later. Shop manual is a must IMO to aid in the proper procedures and spec etc.

The engine can be last, allowing you to remove the frame from around it rather than wrestling with the engine. My order is seat/body/plastics, front wheel/brakes/suspension, bars/gauges (make sure you mark wiring connections well)/triple tree, rear wheel/brakes/suspension/battery box, fuel tank, radiator, carbs, swing arm, wiring harness, engine.

Yes, lots of pictures of how they were assembled. Make sure you stop at your local Dollar General store and buy lots of baggies in various sizes. Use freezer bags - more durable and easier to close.

Those with the zip lock are the best. Also a good permanent marker. Take a couple of pics then remove a part, label the bag and insert the part and fasteners. Get a large box or two and put the bags in them for keeping. Trust me you will loose parts over the winter if you don't keep everything together.

Thanks, everyone , this is what I was looking for :-D
will this be fine in reverse for rebuild ?

And, funny enough , my Norley will only go together by laying the engine on the floor and scooping the frame over it :8)
