Christmas came early! Or, ugh, late?? I'm going to go with early, because look at this! I posted a little but ago needing an extra carb system and this gentleman named Al from Iowa responded with a pair from a '76. I was stoked to see the carbs he had, and offered to pay for them and shipping. But Al began cleaning them and putting them through his ultrasonic cleaner, then he kept going further. He went so far as to polishmost of the parts and even rebuilt the carbs with a randakks carb kit that I sent over. C'mon! Al is going above and beyond here!
Al basically went 1000 [slight pun intended] percent above and beyond what I ever asked for, he didn't have to do a single thing besides mail it over, but he did way more. I can't thank him enough for his time and generosity. Thank you Al! The carbs are looking oh-so-clean! (bottona is his name on the forum)

Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

So I have been wondering if anyone else has done this. The pressure gauge on my front forks has stopped working (which I dont really care for anyways). And I was thinking about just replacing those big bulky things anyways. HAs anyone in here done so with success? I know the fork tubes are 37 mm, would that make the caps the same size when looking for them?
I found this pair for $30, and if it can clean up the front end, I figure, why not?

Thread pitch needs to be the same too. But yes, that would work. Unless you have the stock springs. If you have Progressive springs they should fine without the air.

I'm not trying to spend too heavy on a headlight set, but these seemed to be in a nice simple middle ground. Wondering which ones you guys think would work best, or if you guys have any personal experience with these change outs.
Both seem good to me, but I am curious for some input!
I ended up ordering the second option that is the image above. The casing turns out is metal, gloss black and headlight all together felt solid. Honestly, if any one is looking for an aftermarket headlight, this one was a solid replacement!

I thought the 1000's had airless forks to begin with?

they did from the factory, but there where aftermarket kits to convert them. If I had a problem with the stock springs, I would install progressive replacement springs. In fact I did on my 78

Yeah, and OP talks about it having air. That means they could have used different springs when they put the air on. And they could still be the original 40 year old springs. So due for new ones anyway.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share some quick information. I've been looking at new speedometers and tachometers to replace the bulky stock ones and was confused when it came to the ratios. Seeing a bunch of different answers with a lot of uncertainty, I finally found a solid website with clear information. So just incase anyone was ever wondering and needed answers like I did 3 hrs ago, here ya go!

Since not so many people helped me with my last question, figured I'd just give an update if anyone falls to the same problem.
The larger brake caliper mount was for the forks of a 1975-1977 gl 1000. The smaller mounts go for the 1978-1979 models.
Even though my bike is mainly a 77, the forks are from a 1978 model and thus where my confusion came from. I found a caliper and mount on ebay for $40 and boom! The problem was fixed and my front brakes are working great!
