Re: 1982 Cx500 Police
Gentlemen .. I hope this short video opens. It shows that my Cx500P has a work'n.. " back em up ". 1st gear was been replaced with a reverse gear.
The box lights are work'n and wired.. except the blues. A very loud siren with several different " alerts " has been sourced and will need mount'n brackets fabricated. Box lid needs insulator and chrome trim.

Re: 1982 Cx500 Police
I attend'd one of the many monthly m/c related events... " 1st Thursday..".. " 3rd Thursday ".. " 4th Friday " and others. Usually a beer bar or m/c repair shop.
Last night.... this 84' Honda rode it. I talk'd to the couple. It was her bike. They recently pick'd it up in Chicago. ($5000.oo)
Story as told to them... it was part of a batch built for the Chicago PD but then the order was cancelled and they never entered PD service. How many that were built they couldn't say. I have seen photos of this model in use with the SFPD. It uses the same ice cream box as my Cx500. They used a Ford rear end with a " reverse box" attached. Massive steering dampener (see photo) which the owner said is very stiff.
Owner also reports she's only rode it a few miles.. 40 mph tops so far and it seems stable. They plan to add " blues " and siren.

Yep. The small steering damper on mine is useless. The rake on these things isn't really suitable for trike use. I plan to add a serious damper to mine in the not too distant future.motormike wrote:Massive steering dampener (see photo) which the owner said is very stiff.

Re: 1982 Cx500 Police
Got the unit back from the sign/printer today. I designed my own logo and he did a excellent job. Next..add insulator to the top edge of the box and align the lid. Hope to make a show'n at a m/c event this sunday.
Took it out and about for the first time a couple days ago. First, trikes, like sidecars... have their own rules.... they won't win any slalom race's... they don't like rough road surfaces (solid axle) and high speed pursuit is not their forte. Also.. any speed in reverse above walk'n speed and the handlebars osculate. The crash bar with steering stabilizer that came with the bike was inadverifily toss'd with a bunch of 750 Honda bits by my garage buddy. Until I source another set of crash bars I can't install the stabilizer or siren.
Because I only rode it in the neighborhood... my top speed was about 40mph.. seem'd stable and had plenty of beans left in the kettle.

Re: 1982 Cx500 Police
.. a very distinct possibility... a grey area... I have a 68' Cb450 police... complete with red lights, siren..white in color. So far.. no problems. Many people ask me to run up and down the street with the cherries on and the siren scream'n... major No No.. If I'm in a park'n lot..off the street and there's no house'n.. apartments..nearby, I'll do the siren.
Other times I have ask'd the local police for permission ... parades.. etc etc. I have several police, M/Police and one fire bike in the stable. I think with responsible ride'n I avoid any.. as Obwan would say.. ' any imperial inference "..

Re: 1982 Cx500 Police
The trike made it's debut at a local bike show. First... at 55 mph it's turn'n slightly over 6000 rpms... I'm told these twisted twins like rev's... perhaps between the engine and Cj rear end, this is normal..?.. It had more steam in the kettle.. but I didn't want to push it.
Also there wasn't much travel in the forks.. I didn't keep the units that came on the bike.. perhaps they had stiffer springs..or spacers..? I'll be on the hunt for a set of forks from a Silver Wing, 650 .. they had the fare'n and twin disc.. perhaps they have a stiffer spring..?.. twin stoppers would be nice.
I build dual exhaust from the " H " box.. sounds great.. but if I roll the throttle off to the end ..it back fires a little... I discovered if I roll the throttle off slightly and pull the cutch.. no issues.
except for the weak forks.. I'm pretty pleased with the bike. So, forks, crash bar, siren are on the agenda... but it's a runner and I'm in no rush.

Re: 1982 Cx500 Police
When I got the rig (spring 2016)...it had sat for years..many years and being a Chicago based unit it was rough. I got a good running donor and swapped the engine and front end.. not think'n that perhaps the outfit that built the trike made changes to the stock forks.. springs..spacers.?..
My ride on the donor bike went will... fork action ..fine... I have my eye out for a Silver wing roller.. My think'n is that model has a fare'n.. which should require stiffer springs.. also it had dual brakes.. also a positive.
