7/8" DIAMETER...

#1

Post by ifm61 »

So now Mr Can't Leave It Alone wants straight/drag bars, somewhere betwixt the Clubman drops (loved the look, loved the feel, but the numbness in the hands and backache overcame the vanity) and the trail style i now have on (like riding a remarkably fast Lazy Boy...) Checked on Ebay as you do, and i find a set for $21+ Can, but the wait from Hong Kong... So i check out the details: 28" long, black or chrome, 7/8" diameter, and i decide to order off a local Metalmart. All goes well: small orders are cool, i tell the guy what its for, he suggests 3/16" thick cold rolled steel, hollow, for $23 Can and then the big question - is that 7/8" diameter inside or outside???
I've looked through countless headlined topics on 7/8" diameter bars and can't find the bloody answer !
HELP ! I feel like a proper Charlie. Hopefully picking up the necessary Friday, provided of course, someone can throw that crumb of knowledge my way

Hi,
7/8" is outside diameter (or 22 mm).

Yes 7/8". Are you talking about straight bars? No bend at all? I warned a guy once about doing that. He didn't listen. After he rode from his place to mine, about 60 miles, he knew what I meant. They were off the next time I saw the bike. Straight bars put the wrist at an awkward angle. Real dragbars have a slight bend to them. That makes a big difference.

Not trying to throw any shade, but it seemed like it would have been pretty simple to just measure them before asking the world. Unless of course you were at the metal supplier's, weren't near the bike, and typing on your phone.

or, following a 10 1/4hr day, sitting at the laptop going through page after page of, "yup, its 7/8" diameter" but STILL no mention of inside or outside, before faceplanting on to the keyboard in fatigued frustration... i guess its one of those situations where you just have to walk to the garage late at night in someone else's crocs with a plastic ruler and an allen key (for the bar ends)

We've all been there Brother. Any question is a good question.

It's all good, keep the questions coming and watch my threads because you might be answering one of mine.;)
