Anyone put a stereo on their GL1000?

Hey, guys.

I've got a naked GL1000, wondering if anyone has mounted speakers/stereo on a naked 1000. Or if that's even possible without a fairing.

It's probably silly, but I'm wondering.

I always ride with headphones (I know, let the begin...) to cut down on the wind noise when I'm on a long ride.

Though it would be nice to have external music while I'm cruising around town.

But I don't want a fairing. At all. I like wind buffeting....

So, ideas, gents and gals?

I have seen lot's of set ups for this, mostly speakers (weatherproof ) hung from the bars and radio tucked away in a nook some wheres. I ride with a gent that has a V-Star with this set up, looks kinda busy but works well.

You can also get Bluetooth speakers, and/ or amp...

Ive seen a few of those handlebar setups, which I think are perfect.

My only issue is the charging system; can a GL1000 charging system actually power a stereo like that?

Its what I do, and on the freeway (or when I'm in the middle of nowhere) its fine. But drivers around here are TERRIBLE, and it would help to be able to hear them a bit more clearly.

I've got a 100 watt amp stuck in the glovebox, speakers mounted to the headlight bolts, and an old ipod on a ram mount at the clutch perch. The bike is fairly loud so mostly, over about 45, it's just white noise. Works for me though.

I got a couple of speakers on the handlebars, amp under the seat, Ram Mount for phone. And like everyone else, over 45 you can't hear it...

Ok, so two of you have 100 watt amps. Think the charging system can handle a 300 watt system?

It'll be more important to get efficient speakers and insure you have proper headroom in your amp than it will be to up your wattage. Look for speakers with a high sensitivity, and look for digital amps that are a bit more efficient with power than older designs.

And LED turn indicator bulbs, and tailight bulb, and the "always on" dash bulbs will free up some wattage for other things. The stator puts out about 300 watts and (7) seven watt incandescent dashlights (even in Detroit schools) comes out at 49. LED replacements are 1.5 to 2watts each.

Is there a thread somewhere that lists the specific bulbs on a 78? That way I can make one order? I've been wanting to do that for a while. Even the cluster lights.
