For your carb jets, if they still aren't clean, try using aircraft paint stripper. Put the jets in a small glass jar (only the brass jets, no plastic or anything else) and shoot some aircraft stripper on them to soak them and cover with Aluminum foil and leave it for a day. Next day take each out 1 by 1 using needle nose pliers and give them a shot of carb cleaner and see if that got the crud out. The stripper dissolves just about any organic compound and should remove/soften any varnish deposits so regular carb cleaner will clean it off. Don't get the paint stripper on you! Wear goggles! It's real nasty stuff and will get into you through your skin.

Just good carb cleaner. Nothing exotic, no ultrasonic cleaner, no poking anything in the jets. Soak them and I've never had one I could not get clean.
I do use an ultrasonic cleaner for the carb bodies. Not for stubborn jets.

Re: Hunley fuel milage is awful
Need to revisit and put some closure to this. Although I haven't had a chance to put a full tank through it since finding the problem, I did find and correct the #2 plug fouling rapidly. The needle jet on #2 was all wallowed out. I replaced it with a '79 jet and emulsion tube. 40 miles so far and plug looks great. I'll do a tankful soon when I get time and it cools down some and see if mileage has improved.
