Will the seat fit?

#1

Post by Rileysaurus »

Hey everyone, looking for some advice with my never ending cafe racer build. I aim to put a single/hump seat on. I have a good pan and foam to build the seat, but I'm not confident I can fabricate a cover on my own. I've found some cool cafe racer seats online, but they are around $230. I can find cafe racer seats on amazon for around $40. Has anyone tried to fit one of these on a GL1100? Given the low price, I'm willing to retrofit, but if it wont lay flat on the frame, it may not be worth the trouble. The upsweep in the GL1100 seat pan has me worried.

Welcome to the forum! My guess is that those cafe seats you have found are meant for smaller bikes, which means they are narrower. These old girls have a fairly wide posterior, which makes it more interesting to fit things to them.

There are currently a couple of builds going on now in this forum that show how they did their seat.

Yeah, they were said to fit the smaller cc Honda CBs. The seat I have on the bike now is already cut up, but looks like I'm hauling a loaf of bread in the jump seat. I really like the custom stitch work on the retail seats, so if I cant stitch one up myself, I guess I'll dish out the $.

I built one up for my GL1000 and had a local upholsterer sew the cover for me. I used rebonded carpet padding foam glued with 3M 80 contact cement. Worked well.
